Back from the weekend of fun
Jan. 25th, 2009 04:09 pmThat was a very pleasant weekend :)
On the train up to Newcastle I had a revelation about my mpreg. I don't know what happened but suddenly all the peices just seemed to slot together in my head so I have a very clear direction on where to take it now. I reckon I'm about halfway through the fic now and I also reckon it's going to be the longest one I've ever written as a solo effort. We shall see how it goes I guess.
On Friday night we watched The Dragon's Call. I was really interested to see what Dave would make of Merlin as a non-slasher and someone who is quite snooty about his films and TV shows a lot of the time. He liked it, although I was slightly concerned that he latched onto Merlin/Gaius as a pairing. Just because less than halfway through the episode Gaius tells Merlin to take his shirt off and then pats him on the knee. LOL!
On Saturday we went into Newcastle city centre and to this WONDERFUL little pub that only sells vegetarian and vegan food. I had a delicious Bean and Cashew Nut Burger. Nom!
After that we did a bit of shopping as Dave needed to get a new mobile phone. I convinced myself that I want a touch screen phone and then just as quickly talked myself out of it again. I like gadgets. I should not be allowed into gadget shops, especially ones where they let you play with stuff.
When we got home we watched more Merlin. Thankfully by the time we got to The Poisoned Chalice Dave was on board with Merlin/Arthur. I think it was the bit where Merlin is unconscious and gasping Arthur's name that did it ;) He also was highly amused that we call the dragon The Slash Dragon and loved the idea that he sits in his cave writing fanfic between visits from Merlin. Hee!!
We watched up to Lancelot and decided to save the last episode this morning. Then we played some Xbox for a bit.
I have to say that Eternal Sonata is the cutest and also strangest game I have ever seen.
By this time Dave and I were quite drunk, having had two bottles of wine between us. This, of course, was the moment we decided it would be fun to do the time trials on Tomb Raider Anniversary. Fun, but a bad idea. LOL! I kept randomly walking off cliffs and going splat ;)
This morning we watched A Remedy to Cure All Ills and then it was time to leave.
Overall Dave liked Merlin a lot (although he got confused and kept calling it Arthur. LOL) although he's not very keen on Uther or Morgana. I think he'll like Uther more after Excalibur, or maybe not because obviously it's one of the classic parts of Arthurian legend that they changed a lot for the episode. It made
lex_a_like stop watching it. His main problem with Morgana is that he feels the writers haven't really figured out what they're doing with her. I'm not sure if any of the episodes will change his mind about that. Maybe To Kill The King?
But he accepts Merlin/Arthur are boyfriends and that Gwen/Morgana are girlfriends which was the aim of this weekend ;)
Although he did point out that Gwen is in love with everyone except Uther and Gaius. LOL!
And he objected to Lancelot not being French.
But he mostly liked it so huzzah!
He raised an interesting point actually. In the original legends Gwen marries Arthur out of duty and because he is the king rather than because she loves him. The Lancelot comes along, who is her true love, etc etc. I wonder if they'll have Gwen fall in love with Arthur on the show or whether they'll go down this route. It'll be interesting to see
