I have just finished my first Uther/Gaius fic and I lay the blame firmly at the door of [livejournal.com profile] takadainmate. Well, I suppose the show itself must bear some of the blame as well.

Actually I wrote the fic last night but reached the conclusion it wasn't actually very good or in character. Watched that wonderful scene from Excalibur tonight and immediately re-wrote the fic and am now happy with the result

And, you know, that Uther/Gaius scene is why Excalibur beats The Moment of Truth as my favourite episode. Moment of Truth is certainly epic in terms of Merlin/Arthur but Excalibur has hints of the epic love of Uther and Gaius as well as having lots of nice Merlin/Arthur moments

Oh dear! You've just reminded me of Transformers slash that I wrote *blush*

Hmm...But of course!

Coffee man moves to Smallville and asks Lex if he can borrow some sugar *g*

I wonder if he actually had a name...

How strange!

So all I have to do is invent a last name for him

Well, I've been developing this theory that certain people have a bizarre genetic quirk known as a Hyper-Dominant Genotype... The idea that in certain genetic lines, there's a tendency for a particular physical form to exert itself, over and above what normal recombinant DNA would normally produce.

It's how you can explain the same actors playing different people in different shows that might be in the same timelines. And it means you can have all sorts of fun by making them related.

cf Eve Myles: Merlin Doctor Who, Torchwood, clearly they were all descendants of each other.

And I can certainly imagine Rupert Giles being of Royal Lineage (though probably from a bastard son, since it's clear Arthur will never be able to look at a woman long enough to procreate... Unless there's a trick the dragon knows, to allow magical mpreg...)

EDIT: Well, it would certainly explain Rupert's affinity for magic...
