That's not true. According to most airlines contract of carriage - it is the airline's responability to put you on another flight the same day (most have a 4 hour maximum delay to your travel). Of course, if it's a charter instead of a regular carrier then that might not be true. Who were you flying? I'll see what I can find out about their rules. Because it would suck to have to move or cancel a holiday you've been planning for months!
Essentially they did offer us another flight the same day, but going from Sheffield instead of Leeds and at 6am which would have been impossible for us.
