Maybe it's just me but who write brutal non-con as their first fic? I saw it on one of the comms (and didn't read it) but the disclaimer just baffled me.

And if I hear Alexandra's version of Hallelujah one more time I might break something! I've got nothing against her. She was clearly the best singer on The X Factor but the song just doesn't suit her voice

Also, someone was telling me that Simon Cowell owns the rights to Hallelujah now so all of us who bought the Jeff Buckley version in protest were just lining Cowell's pockets even futher

He also owns the rights to the Leonard Cohen version. He is making millions off this song no matter what.

I think you already know the answer to that given my very loud support for Alexandra over the months - but I must admit, I am a little bugged by all the people who claim that the song should only be sung by a white male. Her rendition was fantastic IMO (although I imagine, overplayed on certain radio stations).

I'm just not overly fond of it, although it might be partially down to the fact that Radio 2 seems to be playing it once an hour every day.

I wasn't being facetious in my question btw. I tend to skip over X Factor posts because I don't watch it. Saw a couple this year, but only enough to help me decide I wanted her to win

Hee, they're not really saying that, but I am inferring it because I've seen a lot of comments along the lines of: "She sings it with no feeling! The only good versions are Leonard Cohen's or Jeff Buckley's!" And I have made the executive decision that they are being either racist or sexist.

I think Listen would have been a better single for Alexandra but there is no way JLS could have sung that, lol. I think her version is fine technically but I find it a bit soulless.

Oh and I think Simon Cowell is clever buying all the rights to the song.

I have to say, it does really annoy me that the Xfactor people get xmas number 1 each year. They play to the kids who watch it, and whatever happened to having a nice happy xmas song as number 1?

I watched the xfactor this year, so i don't really have anything against that, but I actually hate Alexandra's version of the song, almost as much as I hate Leona Lewis's version of Run.

Subject was my first fic and there was some very brutal non-con in it, but it probably was not all that good (I've since gotten better at writing I believe), so maybe it's not uncommon to do that...

Oh, I'm sure it's not that uncommong. It was just funny (or not) that the disclaimer read something like 'This is my first fic, and Arthur rapes Merlin'

You are the third person to mention Alxandra’s “Hallelujah” today, so I decided to give in and look it up on YouTube. It’s nice, but I can easily see how it can become tiresome if overplayed. And it’s a bit weird to hear it turn into this very powerful number in the final part, because I’m used to thinking of “Hallelujah” as a very understated song where the focus is much more on the lyrics and atmosphere then on the vocal abilities of the singer. After all, it is a Cohen’s song, and his vocal abilities are… somehow limited ;)

And I must say that the amount of people who have never heard Cohen’s version, or heard it and though it creepy, is scaring me a bit. Here where I live, Cohen is God. We might be the only country in the world where his CDs reach the top of pop charts ^_^
