*watches as LJ explodes with Doctor Who talk*

Good lord! He looks like he shouldn't be out without his mother! And what's with the silly emo haircut?

That is purely my superficial reaction. I don't doubt that he can act. He wouldn't have got the part otherwise, but he looks more like companion material rather than Doctor material.

Still, way to make me feel old, Beeb. The new Doctor is three years younger than me!

It's interesting that [livejournal.com profile] lou_angel said that dreaming of teeth falling out can indicate anxiety about loss of youth. Well, this coupled with the Merlin fandom stuff I posted about yesterday is certainly doing the job!

*reserves further judgement until the first episode has aired*

Hee! My reaction was very similar to yours. There must be Doctor Who forums melting down all over the place right now.

I am nearly 10 years older than the Doctor! That's just not right!

Well, I'll reserve (further) judgement until we see him in the role. Maybe he'll be fantastic *crosses fingers*

Your train of thoughts is very similar to mine.
I'm over my initial freak out. He doesn't look *that* young in those promo pictures in front of the TARDIS, so maybe he'll pull it off. But they scared me there for a moment with this baby-casting. lol

I'll admit the promo pics look better than the interview with him but still...

Conversation with my mother re: new Doctor Who.

Me: They're announcing the next Doctor today.
Mum: They've said it's not a woman.
Me: You expected it to be?
Mum: No, but I'm boycotting anyway.

She's going to be devestated to discover that, not only is he not a woman, he's also a child that she's never heard of!

The first thing that came to my mind was "And which Pitt would this be? Pitt the Toddler? Pitt the Embryo? Pitt the glint in the milkman's eye?" - but for 'Pitt' read 'Doctor'.

Captain Jack can't crush on this incarnation - that's jailbait territory!

Hah!!! Yes, that fits perfectly. Blackadder FTW!

*now thinks Rowan Atkinson would make a good Doctor*

Rowan Atkinson has already been the Master though :P

That said, half the people linked with being the Doctor had already been in the series as other characters, which annoys me - though it's possible that the regeneration process isn't random, but is drawn from the Doctor's unconscious memory of people he's met in passing before.

At least it wasn't a female doctor - not from a sexist POV, but from a believability, it wouldn't fit - not that rewriting the Doctor Who universe to accomadate more modern thinking hasn't happened before, but until it happens, and for about three to five years after, it wouldn't feel right - and in a ratings obsessed, money slashing BBC, that would probably kill the show, again.

Sorry, not true.

In 'Curse of Fatal Death', he played a theoretical Ninth Doctor, with Julia Sawahla as his companion and Jonathan Pryce as The Master.

Colin Morgan takes a breath of relief that there is now a worse hair-cut than his on UK television.

*pouts* I wanted the guy from Peep Show! He's funny. Damn RTD and his twink-obsession!

(I'm sure this guy can act & I will probably end up loving him.)

Hehe! *pities poor Colin and his unfortunate hair*

Who was the guy from Peep Show that was being considered? I never even heard about that one.

Oh, there is a chance that this new guy will be good but on a superficial level I am not impressed.

It's this guy:

When I was over in Europe in May, the friend I was staying with was obsessed with Peep Show and we watched about a dozen eps. Paterson Joseph played a character called Johnson. I liked him: great comic timing.

Oh, isn't it fun watching the Internet explode? I'm finding it hilarious *g*

He looks older in RL, I saw him Swimming With Sharks and he doesn't look quite so baby-faced in that. He's also quite the awesome actor, so I'm holding out great hopes. Of course, I'll reserve full judgment until I see the first episode.

He's only a year younger than me *g*

Personally speaking I think it could have been a LOT worse!

It could have been some anorexic looking bint who was last seen in an episode of Coronation Street because the writers thought a sassy female Doctor would be 'new and edgey'.

That's a long time to reserve judgement, you'll be blue in the face by the time we see him as the doctor.

I am concerned that they've picked a Doctor the same age as me... all my life Doctor Who has had Doctor's that are older than me, so become a being I can aspire to - now the Doctor is the same age is me, well it doesn't work.

It's Steven Moffat's choice though, so I'm willing to bet he's got something in mind for a Doctor so young.

Nobody else gets to talk about his age. He's younger than my SON.

But I'm watching him right now in Ruby in the Smoke and I think he's got the quality.

Oh, I'm sure he'll do a very good job. I just think he's going to have to prove himself more than another actor because of his age. It's just...weird.

Okay... okay... except he's older than me, and he's only a few years younger than Peter Davidson was... and Davidson rocked.

First response - wha? who? Who?

Second response - *turns to boyfriend* "you know, in a few years time when he leaves the next Doctor will probably then be younger than us, right?" (I'm 21, 22 in July and boyfriend has just gone 22)

I then spent his interview bits wishing he'd brushed his hair. Or did he?

but I'll wait until he starts to see what I think of him as the Doctor.

I wasn't impressed with the choice - and agree he looks too young (Benjamin Button anyone? The Doctor that gets younger and younger with every regen?)
We'll see I guess. I wasn't happy when Tenant tookover either but I learnerd to love him.
