Mum-Ra and Flickums have gone to church and I will likely burn in Hell because I opted for staying home in my PJs

Flick has loaned me the Sam Neil version of Merlin. Anyone else seen it? I'm probably going to have a hard time going back to anything Arthurian that isn't slashy now. LOL! Oh, Merlin, you have broken my brain.

Dad-Ra has gone to bed so I don't have to be sociable now. I think maybe I'll hang around online for a bit and then go to bed. Presents Christmas tomorrow! WHEE!

Yes, I do remember watching and enjoying the Sam Neill version of Merlin back in the day.

Merry Christmas if I didn't already say it and hope you like your little gift!

Merry Christmas to you too!

*raises hand* Hey, me too. Plus, I'm watching a rated R movie that has absolutely nothing to do with Christmas.

That's actually one of my favourite Merlin stories, the one with Sam Neil...I have it on videotape from when it first aired here!

Merry Christmas, dear!

I have one sister who is very religious (and very obnoxious about it), and she actually once told my mom that she was going to hell. My mom's response? "Well, at least I'll be with your father." LOL!

Hah! How awesome!

My mum and my sister aren't especially religious but they like to go to church at Christmas. I didn't get lectured about not going :)

I go to keep Mum-Ra company. She knows that isn't what I believe and seems pretty cool with it. I dunno, I just don't like the idea of her being there by herself. It's weird.

I just don't feel comfortable in churches :(

I didn't feel comfortable last night either.

But mind if I ask why?

I just feel like a hypocrite as it's not what I believe

Again with the bold questions - what do you believe?

Uh...I haven't figured that out yet

The Sam Neill "Merlin" was a miniseries from about ten years ago when NBC would do a new, big-budget fantasy series every year - it started with "Gulliver's Travels," then "The Odyssey" (which was wretched). There was also "The 10th Kingdom," but Merlin is my favorite by far. Sam Neill is great in it, plus there's Rutget Hauer, Helena Bonham Carter, Isabella Rossellini, (James Earl Jones (or at least his voice) and a surprisingly good Martin Short. You may find Arthur and Lancelot lacking impact in such a great cast, but Gwenevere is played by the always-lovely Lena Headey.

Uh, yeah, I love it :) And have probably watched it twenty times...

I love it too. Miranda Richardson was also in it playing Queen Mab and the Lady of the Lake. Great stuff.

'Excalibur' remains my favourite even with the re-visioning but Sam Neil was so yummy as Merlin.

Oh, trust me - you'll be fine. Every Arthurian movie I've ever seen has been remarkably slashy. The only difference is that it's usually Arthur/Lancelot and not our new version of Arthur/Merlin. *g*

Seriously, Excalibur (from the 1980s I think) is about as slashy as a movie can get and still pretend to be about Arthur and Guinevere

Hehe, I didn't go to church yesterday either, even though the rest of my family went. But I just don't want to go there. Instead, I visited an ill old lady that used to work with my parents when they weren't married yet, and she was a lot more happy to see me than any priest would have been, I guess. :D

I've seen the Sam Neill one. I really wanted Miranda Richardson's hair. But the rest was crap.

I've actually never seen an Arthurian production I've liked, the nearest was Excalibur.

I'm probably going to burn in Hell too considering some of the choices I've made this year.

But I prefer to go along with Pratchett's theory that whatever you believe in regards to death is what happens.

If you believe in Heaven or Hell then you'll end up in one or the other.
If (like Ant and I guess myself) you believe that the afterlife is a huge hall full of food, mead and buxom wenches then that's what's waiting for you.
If you believe that you'll be reincarnated as a snail (or any other creature), then that'll happen.

It's a nice little belief system that works for me.

I like that idea :)

I only want to go to hell if it's full of pretty men being slashy ;)

Well, from what I've gathered hell is a firey pit full of torture.

So it'll be full of pretty men being sweaty and whipping each other...

....damn.

I saw a bit of a Rik Mayal Merlin which looked awful. Also at Christmas David's Dad told me how he doesn't like the new Merlin because Merlin and Arthur were never friends and the time frames are all wrong. I tried to explain to him how it was based on Smallville but he didn't get it.

LOL! Yes, there's a lot wrong with Merlin compared to the traditional legends. It bothered me for the first episode and then I didn't care after that because it's too cute not to love
