I am running on a cocktail of sugar and caffine. Ahh! No doubt I will fall over later. Luckily I'm on a half day today as it's our office Christmas lunch this afternoon.

Had a dream last night that I bought the first Twilight book because I didn't want to slate it without having read it first. We'll have no more nonsense like that, thanks subconscious.

I have found myself half-tempted to go and see the Twilight film, such is the power of advertising (and vampire sparkles). There'll be none of that nonsense, either. Though I might rent it when it comes out on DVD ...

I have to say I do have a slightly twisted curiosity about the film. I would quite like to see Cedric Digory sparkle just for the laughs

You kinda have to take Twilight for the crack that it is. It was never, ever going to be as brilliant as some of the hardcore fans insist that it is. That being said, unless you have a serious interest in the movie, wait for the DVD rips to start floating around in a few months (last I heard March or even Feb is possible) because while it amuses me, they really don't need MORE money to further encourage filming the DRAFT of New Moon in order to have a US release of November 20 2009. Just saying.

And I'm with you on the running on sugar and caffeine thing. THough it's MOSTLY sugar. I melted a candy cane in a mug of hot chocolate that had a ridiculously solid layer of mini marshmellows. I suspect I'll be asleep by dinner at this rate.

My teenage nieces defends Twilight as a bit cliche, but an entertaining read. They think, however, that the movie is crap.
Frankly, I think most of the stuff in the Fantasy section of any bookstore is cliche crap rip-offs - there is far between the originality in the genre. Same actually goes for horror, etc (I'm increasingly re-reading old stuff instead these days). It is just too popular and easy to sell. There's a reason why cheap, factory produced paperbacks sell too.
Time will tell what survives. Like, (simplified) 19 century was full of romantic/gothic stuff, but the Bronte sisters books are mostly what we know today.

I'll be very surprised if Twilight survives the test of time
