I'm sure I can't be the only one angsting about what's going to happen in Merlin on Saturday, so I thought why not share. The joy of LJ is that there is bound to be at least one person out there feeling the way you do

T______________T I am both excited about, and dreading Saturday every moment. So far I am getting through the week by avoiding anything to do with fandom so I have stuff to catch up on after next week is over, to cope with the lull (if there is one).

Right okay. So many people are speculating about Gaius's death in the next episode. IF THIS HAPPENS I WILL CRY. Merlin isn't ready for it! He needs someone there to knock him around the head and give him advice!

I'm coping this week simply because I'm too busy to think about anything other than dissertation! But there's no way I'm going to able to concentrate at work on Saturday night. D:

If they're going to kill off Gaius (which sadly I think they will) then someone else needs to know Merlin's secret. He needs someone to confide in and angst with. Maybe Arthur will find out? Or Gwen or Morgana. Morgana seems more likely actually.

When I first saw it, I think my reaction was pretty much the same as everyone else's: OMGArthurisDEAD?WTF After the emotional uplift of the fluttery cloaks, I suddenly felt ridiculously anxious (about a television show whose target audience is supposed to be less than half my age--Christ in a dragon cave).

I was looking at spoilers over at digitalspy (while attempting to figure out if a second season is forthcoming; it was my first foray into the spoiler world), though, and 'Arthur mortally wounded', and 'a close friend of Merlin's is killed' are two different spoilers. This made me take notice, because:

if Arthur really is dead, and Merlin goes to a much creepier version of Avalon to ensure his resurrection, I feel that this would raise incredibly problematic issues. Uther would rather have his son alive, no doubt, but to have him literally come back from the dead in the Court to End All Magic?

I've begun to think, more and more, that this will be not unlike the poison episode--that Merlin will still be in a position to fix what is wrong with Arthur by dealing with Nimueh, before Arthur actually dies. It is obvious from the trailer, though, that someone really is dead, and I wondered then if the friend was Gaius, who had attempted to heal Arthur and had somehow been killed in the process; if Morgana had foreseen further deaths and declared that this was 'only the beginning', rather than suggesting that Arthur's death was only the beginning. Doctor Who-slot shows are known for clever, suspense-heavy cuts for their previews, and I wondered if I had fallen prey to this in my OMGArthurisdeadWTF moment.

So I guess this is, really, how I am coping: escapism. I can't say it's preying on my mind at every moment, but I am concerned about how they plan to resolve this--and not thrilled at the idea that they might cliffhang the hell out of it and then not do a second season. The show has received some respectable reviews so far, but a large number of people still think it's the worse thing ever to have hit television--I think the pretty slash possibilities blind many of us at merlinxarthur to some of the utterly horrific plot twists.

Ho-hum. I bet when you said 'Daily Merlin Support', you didn't expect me to actually engage with this in therapy-like proportions.

I can't work out wether I'm more nervous over the final ep. of Merlin or my dissertation proposal deadline tomorrow....I have a fealing my lecturer would not like the answer. Whilst I liket he whole sailing boat thing as that feels ummm, how can I put it, more traditionally arthurain I DONT WANT ARTHER TO DIE!!!! The Beeb have said that it'll end on a clif hanger so ARTHUR CANNOT DIE as there is the possiblity of a second series (I will petition so HARD for them to do another series). Plus if it sucks they might as well cancel Christmas.

*Frantically trying to focus on georgian embroidery and not get distracted by Merlin and failing MISERABLY*

gahhhhh...i wouldnt mind so much about a cliffie if i would know the show would come back for a second season before that happens...because even though i would go mental with the waiting, at least i would know that IT IS COMING...

my way to cope is to try and keep busy and not think about saturday but by doing that i am actually constantly thinking about saturday because i am trying to avoid thinking about it...does that make sense or is my mind going in a loop (wouldnt be the first time)

Hmm I had to restrain the "WHAT?!" that threatened to burst forth as I watched the preview on Saturday as I was sitting with my boyfriend and his flatmate and decided I was not going to give away how stupidly into the fandom I can get (though boyfriend already knows kinda).

My coping mechanism currently at the moment involves alternating between job hunting, reading fic (though how reading Merlin/Arthur is helping with the OMG WTF?! I'm not sure) and obsessing over James and Oliver Phelps... Oh and going slightly batty over Doctor Who as per usual. I only want Christmas to hurry up so I can watch the new episode :0D

All in all it's working quite well.

Well, I know Arthur isn't going to die (well, he might but he won't stay dead) because without him there's no show but I'm worried they might have someone like Gaius take his place :(

I really hope the series comes back for a second season and I'm desperately hoping Anthony Head signs up again. I'll miss Uther terribly if he doesn't.

I'm getting through this week by pic spamming my journal, creating picture montages and I have two fics which I need to writer and post before January. Add into that Christmas shows at my kids' schools and I'm keeping busy. :)

When things are close to ending I always usually have a nervous meltdown (see: Painter of the Wind, Hong Gil Dong), so I save the last few episodes for marathoning. It works well and I get to laugh at myself after finishing the series.

Which means, of course, that I probably missed Morgana and Uther being awesome in 12, but whatever. I can do this. Yes.

The thing that's really eating away at me is Pru's AU WIP.

Oh, this is such a good idea. I just, I've no idea what to even be expecting. The stills just about killed me, and the thought of Merlin losing Arthur is just... well, unthinkable. :/

What something said about it being Gaius - I hadn't even thought about it but it does make sense. Because they couldn't've given it all away in the preview, right?

Right, I'm totally just trying to convince myself it's not Arthur. Because... it can't be Arthur. *headdesk* Sorry, I'm totally repeating myself here, that's how scared the teaser has had me. *tear*

I've been saying for weeks that if they're going to kill anyone it will be Gaius. I mean Uther will have to die at some point for Arthur to be king, but I don't think it will be for a while yet

Gaius is the only original character (ie one not taken from the legends) so I think he will be the one to go

Yeah, I have to say between the spoilers and the episode preview I'm pretty worried. I'm actually a bit worried for Merlin, because I can totally see him giving up his own life. I don't think Arthur is *dead* dead. Maybe like Sleeping Beauty style.

But I am totally freaking out. I mean, we know it's going to be a cliffhanger. And at least I have the comfort of knowing that the fic is going to rock. That's what I am *trying* to focus on. Also, this thread-of-comfort-and-solace was a wonderful idea. <3

You know I have this awful feeling that it will end with Merlin facing off Nimueh and we just WON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENS.

I just really hope they pick it up for another series. It's reminded me so much of the old Saturday evenings when I was young and TV was pure escapism for the young, and young at heart. This has really captured that feeling for me. It needs to return.

And if Gaius dies to right a balance, I'll still be so gutted. (and my Gaius centric fics will take first place to be written. :o( )

Holy crap. Where the hell have I been? Gaius being killed off? What? This can't happen, there is no way that they can do that and I will hate them forever if they do.

As for coping mechanisms, I thought I was coping quite well, keeping busy, writing lots of fic, and trying not to think too much about next saturday, but then I started reading the comments, and there was mentions of Gaius being killed off. God, I can't wait for saturday I need it now.

This is why I need to come out of my little writing bubble every now and then to check out what the rest of the fandom is up to.

OMG! I read that last comment and it just hit me! What if they leave it hanging with the bringing him back to life thing. I am far too busy studying for finals right now to worry about Merlin, but come 2:00 tomorrow afternoon I believe the full force of it will hit me all at once. Probably when I'm queuing to board the plane back home, and I'm not really a fan of flying anyway, so, yes, much anxiety all around. O_o

Just thought I'd let everyone know that a phone interview with Merlin's director was posted up on merlinxarthur and he said they would start filming again in Febuary of next year. So that sounds to me as though Season 2 definately has go ahead - so don't worry people! If there is some grotesquely massive cliff hanger it will get resolved eventually...before the next one.

P.S I'll find the link tomorrow, am about to hit the hay. Apologies if someone has already pointed this info out.
