I'm angsting about next weeks Merlin


This is not going to end well, is it? No matter what happens

From the preview we know that Arthur dies, or is at least left with wounds from which he won't recover.

Wiki asks whether Merlin will be able to pay the price to save Arthur.

Either the episode is going to end with Merlin being presented with a choice (which will almost certainly be 'I can save Arthur but someone else will have to die in his place') or it's going to end with Merlin making that decision and someone (I'm guessing Gaius since he's the only non-canon character) dying

I don't want anyone to die! I want them to all live happily ever after and be cute and in love like they have been this year. Everyone is paired off nicely (in my head) with Merlin/Arthur, Gwen/Morgana and Gaius/Uther.

Wah!

And we still don't know if there's going to be a series 2. MAKE A FUCKING DECISION ALREADY!

Gah! I can feel all the pain Smallville caused me coming to the surface again.

I need comfort!

I won't go there...

As to whether it's a matter of Merlin's life, or someone else's, i don't think it's going that way.

The choice will be whether to admit he is a warlock, in Uther's presence.

Then there's Uther's choice, does he have Merlin put to death, or let him save Arthur - abandon the law, or let his son and Merlin die. Uther's decision will only go one way - but how long will it take for Merlin to decide?

I think after Arthur dies Merlin will go somewhere to save him (was that Avalon he was sailing towards in the trailer?) and the choice will be Arthur's life for someone else's. Parallel to Arthur's mother dieing for Arthur to be born, because magic always comes with the price.
I think Merlin will make the deal because he'll think he's sacrificing himself for Arthur. But it will end up being someone else's life.
If it's Gaius it would be terrible for Merlin, I can only imagine how guilty he'd feel.
But it makes more sense for it to be Uther. There's potential for much more drama and angst there. Can you imagine Arthur finding out one day that not only is he alive at the price of his father's life, but that it was Merlin who made the call? Much angst, and Arthur "doing an Uther (after his wife's death)" and being against magic.

I dunno. I'm not sure they're ready to kill Uther off yet. It's been said again and again that Arthur isn't ready to be king yet. But I suppose that could just add to the angst.
