What an odd little show! I came into it having no idea what it was about. I didn't even know it was JJ Abrams new show until the credits came up. You could soon tell though. The dramatic pauses between scenes, that black dude from Lost who looks like a Voodoo priest, an annoying female lead. LOL!

Just like lost the main character is annoying (and reminds me of Meredith Grey, and not in a good way) but the supporting cast is awesome. I love Joshua Jackson and Denethor as an eccentric scientist is win.

Overall I'd call this a cross between The X-Files and Supernatural.

Now, the pilot of Supernatural didn't win me over the first time I watched it so I'm willing to give Fringe maybe another episode or two to see how it goes. At the moment I'm only semi-interested.

I found the whole set-up contrived (you can check someone out of an insane asylum when they were institutionalized for manslaughter?), but so far I like it well enough.

I agree that the supporting cast is way better than the lead. I liked the father-son relationship.
