Ok, really, you guys HAVE to watch this panel!

The stuff that isn't hilarious is really interesting.

Someone flat out asks Michael if the crappy plots of Smallville were why he left. He says no.

So, here's the whole thing (embedded because I'm nice) but behind a cut of course

Michael and James are a panic together! I'd love to see them do a play - they'd be hysterical in The Odd Couple!

Thanks for posting all of these!

*hugs*

That was a great panel, and it was interesting seeing it again to see the things I missed the first time out.

I talked to the Sci-Fi track coordinator (Dragon*Con is organized by tracks, or areas of interest, for panels and stuff) and she's tring to boost the SV track for next year, she regretted that Erica bailed because of a conflict, but to be honest I didn't really miss her. James and Michael by themselves were just fine.

There was supposed to be another Smallville panel on monday, which I did't see (I left Sunday) with James and Michael, but I'd not seen videos of that one...

Had you seen that one on youtube?

No, I've only seen this one so far. I'm sure more vids will come up though

There was one last panel Monday afternoon that was going to be Michael and Phil Morris, but apparently Michael had an emergency and had to leave the con early. Phil Morris was awesome, though. Unfortunately I haven't seen any YouTube vid of it.

Re: Michael, Phil said he regretted he wouldn't be able to work with Michael this next season. Someone asked him about playing pool on the purple pool table. It turns out Phil is quite the pool sharp, and decided he should challenge Michael sometime! He very much liked Poolhall Junkies.

Oh, it's too bad Michael had to leave early, I hope everything is okay now and that emergency wasn't too serious, but I would have liked to have seen Phil.

He seems like a cool guy. I'm glad he's coming back to the show, I know he's a busy guy so it's good they were able to get him at least for a few episodes.

Phil was incredibly cool! He's a ginormous comics nerd--he's broken up with girlfriends and moved out from roommates who suggested he get rid of his collection. :-D He knew way more about Martian Manhunter than anyone else on the Smallville set.

He had great stories about being the son of TV's first dramatic black actor, about how cool it was that they cast an African American man as the last Martian, alienated from American society, about his favorite comic characters, about doing voiceover work for animated characters ... he was really a fantastic panelist. And so into being there! I became an instant fangirl.

I walked by him leaving the Hyatt to go over to the Marriott (I think), you know at the top of that steep ass flight of steps?

He was friendly when I recognized him, but had kept on moving... Seems like a super nice guy and I LOVE the fact he loves comics.

That's awesome.

It seems he was a wonderful fan of the character before he got cast in the part, which is terrific.

Oh, yeah, those stairs!

I forgot to mention he's hot. So damn good looking. Rowr!

Those stairs were crazy!

So steep and long and narrow...

He was going into the Hyatt with a couple of guys and I had just left, so it was packed and when I recognized him, all I had a chance to say was something along the lines of, "Phil! Love you in Smallville!"

He smiled a completely gorgeous smile and said, "Thanks!"

And then he kept right on walking...

Oh, well. I'm sorry I didn't see any of his panels, he was in several that weren't smallville related and I think he had one coming up, which was why he was heading into the Hyatt.

I have two more vids to go, and I don't think I can take much more. My sides hurt from laughing.

"I slept with his wife."

Oh. My. GOD, Michael!!

And the visual of Tom giving Michael the finger out the trailer window? That's going to have me laughing all DAY!!!

I also have to go and find stuff out about James Marsters now. I won't embarrass myself and tell you what I'm shocked about, but . . . yeah. Need to go read up on him, because I think I might love him a little now.

Thank you so much for posting these. James and Michael= LOVE!!!!

I'm sure I can answer a lot of your Marsters questions. I've been stalking fangirling him for several years now. I first met him back in 2003 and I try to see him whenever he's in the UK (which, luckily for me, is quite often)

Wow. Aside from being SIDE-SPLITTINGLY BRILLIANT! that was indeed fascinating.

So, the actors/producers etc aren't told WHY characters are doing certain things? God that explains SO MUCH! Especially about the fake baby thing. It's a wonder other storylines weren't completely destroyed.

And it's interesting they both thought Lex was well written. They have a good point I think. Lex had a proper, deep, serious journey he was going through, the problem was that the other characters didn't and didn't acknowledge his development either. Thus fuelling the ambiguity and raising the hackles of us Lex fans :p

But damn, Michael HAS made me feel less bitchy towards the writers/producers/directors though. I had no idea reality television etc was causing such problems for drama TV. It must be difficult for them to keep a show together under that kind of pressure... but still, a little more communication would have gone a long way! Michael mentions how there was the overarching plan for 'Lex to become evil' and how he was told 'but he's not there yet,' so surely a definate turning point where he, as the actor, was told 'this is where he IS starting to turn' would have been, you know, helpful? And yet he rest of the Q&A suggests this never happened.

Hmmm. Interesting. Thanks so much for posting this! <3

Yeah, because I watched Seasons 1-5 of Smallville in one big go it was really obvious to me that Lex suddenly becomes evil for no real reason. It's like the writers decided it was about time he was there so they suddenly just started writing him as evil for no reason

Such a shame as it could have been awesome

Date: 2008-09-07 10:23 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] littlehollyleaf.livejournal.com
Yeah! And you can see Michael floundering too - the way he's all tortured about what he's doing in one ep, and the next he's acting all cold-hearted, clearly because he doesn't know whether Lex has embraced his evil or not yet or if he's even supposed to.

I know actors are supposed work out a lot of character development themselves but there's only so much they can do when they don't know the basics!

From: [identity profile] hils.livejournal.com
Exactly! And when they ask questions no one has the answers. What can you do? No wonder he left!
