I am now insured to drive my mum's car. It's costing me £50 for two months (when the policy expires) so I don't even want to think how much it's going to cost for a full year

You were right hobbituk it didn't take me long to start moaning about the cost of car insurance. And wait until my parents go on holiday in September. Mum is leaving her car behind and says I can use it as much as I want so long as the tank is full when they get back. THEN I will be complaining about petrol prices.

I guess I need a new driving icon now

He - there's a reason why I got the license but never bothered to get a car. Between renting occasionally, taking taxi when needed and pay for transport, I still use less than I would just to insure a car, and then I have to buy it, buy gasoline, repairs and service... no way - I prefer using money on more fun things.
But I was wondering - why is it she has to pay extra for you to drive it? In Norway the insurance covers anyone you lend the car to, as long as they have a valid license. If you lend it to someone, and they have an accident that is their fault, you pay more insurance next year, but the same is the case if you cause an accident yourself. It's a bonus system - the longer you drive without accident, the more bonus on the premium.

I'm not sure. I think it's maybe because I'm a new driver and therefore more likely to have an accident. Not sure.
