Date: 2008-07-22 07:19 pm (UTC)That said, I'm not surprised to see Joker lingering down there at the bottom - the difference between comics and television (these days anyway), is that in TV bad guys get their own following, and there is a requirement to give them redeeming qualities to allay people's down trodden fears that fans of these bad guys are spontaneously going to become evil mastermind's themselves. Of course this also drives up a character's ratings.
It's not unknown in comics though, quite a few of the Lex Vs Superman comics have Lex with redeeming qualities, and reveal that his evilness is really just obsession to be the best, which Superman stands afoul of.
Of course this isn't a life or death poll, however it does remind me of some polls not long after things died down in Afghanistan, and polls as things were hotting up for a head on with Iraq. Back when Afghanistan had been brought under control (however loosely that term applies in the real world), the biggest threat to the world - as seen by respondents to the polls, was Usama Bin Laden. A year later, and the various western governments are posturing, and debating, generally saber rattling to drum up support for unilateral action against Iraq, and polls at the time suggest that Saddam is the biggest threat to the world.
Two years later, suddenly it's house prices going up, and inflation going down.
And now it's house prices coming down, and inflation going up, and oil that people see as the biggest threat.
Yet, there are so many more things that are bigger threats - a lot come down to oil, but not at the pump for the average consumer. No one's really talked about it, but the cost to service for police, ambulances, and fire brigade is rocketing, and it's only a matter of time before bean counters start trying to keep swathes of essential service vehicles off the road, to limit costs. That's of course the biggest threat to England today. To the world it's international trade, it's been fairly cheap to move vast quantities of goods from China, India, etc... around the world - however at 1/30th a mile per gallon (which is a generous estimation of the average (given the multitude of different sized and engined ships)), and oil prices having doubled in the past year, stockpiles for shipping companies are now low (as most thought to weather the storm, rather than go for long term mitigation), everything that is shipped, and indeed flown, is going to have to have extra fee's passed on into the prices. Of course that might only be a few pence in the pound, but on the average (two adults, and 2.4 children), each week of month that's going to add up. Over the course of the year it's going to make a big difference to budgets.
Of course energy costs, due to piss poor energy management by many western governments (namely the UK, and America), with a 40% rise due before December hits. But energy would come 2nd or 3rd today, as the prices are dropping back briefly. Npower Business are now selling at 3% less than they were yesterday. Not sure about Npower Residential, as they hedge more, which means they look good when prices are going up (as they bought and the prices rise, but they sell at the same) - but if you're not on a fixed priced, fixed term contract - I'd be checking energy companies to this week. Which is by no means an advertisement of Npower, check them all out, different areas have stronger and weaker suppliers.
Okay I'll stop geeking o t over yo 're poll reslts. Especially since my *insert letter that follows T in the alphabet*, and the enter key isn't working again (I'm doing line breaks with a paste). *growls at laptop*

As to Dark Knight, definately, if you're still up for it :) - not seen you on MSN/Yahoo since last you booked to let you know (and of course emails, or even LJ posts mentioning it are beyond me)
