Why I can never be a cat mum
Jun. 7th, 2008 12:27 amI am a firm believer that cats should be allowed to go outside unless it's unsafe for them to do so.
This is why if I ever get a pet it will have to be a dog.
I was just considering a post about how well behaved my parents kitty has been this week when she presented me a bird. Still alive, but I don't think it's going to last long. All its feathers have been stripped bare and it's just lying there.
Problem is whenever I try and go near it it starts flailing and squeaking and it's freaking me out. I have less of a problem disposing of dead animals than ones that are still alive.
Usually when she brings things in I chase her outside with them but this was clearly meant to be a present as she just dropped it on the floor and went straight back outside
Thanks kitty

Date: 2008-06-06 11:55 pm (UTC)That? And the constant shitting in my flower beds is exactly what puts me off of cats. I hope the bird didn't linger - it breaks my heart to think of it suffering...

But on the other hand, kitty is a kitty, and they have their own set of instincts too.

And no, I don't let my cats out. I live in a city. The average life of an outdoor cat is 1.5 years, compared to 12 I think for indoor.
So, yeah. Unless I lived way out in the country (and there were no wild cougars or wolves...) Idoors is so much safer.

But yes, she does seem to be rather happy with me. I just wish she'd show it in a slightly less icky way. LOL!

Date: 2008-06-07 05:11 am (UTC)Totally. It just depends on where you live.
Lived in Kent, Ohio - not a small town, but not a huge city, either. Cats roam free. I moved to Cleveland, and my cats haven't been outside since.
