That was better! I feel like that was a good lesson and that I actually made progress so much better than last week. My instructor isn't having to remind me to change gear or check my mirrors half as much as he used to

Today it was roundabouts, which I hate but I now hate slightly less. Managed to stall 3 times *facepalm* Have just about got over my fear of driving fast too. My instructor was laughing at me because the first time I accelerated to 70 I looked shit-scared and apparently the second time I had a little gleeful smile on my face. LOL!

Had a quick go at parallel parking at the end of the lesson and I forsee the same problems I had reversing around a corner. I'll get a proper practise next week though.

After parallel parking that's it. He's shown me everything at least once and it will just be down to lots and lots of practise.

I'm so glad this one went well for you :) One thing I can say for the US fascination with driving automatic, it was nice to learn how to do the driving part before I had to pay attention to what gear I was in, not stalling, etc.
Funny learning to drive standard story: The first time I went 'fast' (ie, past parking lot speed,) I ended up having to make a moving left hand turn before I did it going right. Now, having learned to drive with an auto first, I knew that I could make the turn across traffic in plenty of time, I did however, forget that I couldn't just accelerate through the turn in the same gear I was in already. So we went around the corner with me shouting 'what gear? what gear?' and my dad going 'eeeee! 2nd! 3rd! SHIFT!!' We did make it through the turn without getting hit, but it was a bit hairy for a minute. Weee.

I drive standard daily now as my car is such. <3s Jeep some more.

Also wanted to say that your icon is great, it makes me giggle.

Hee! I love my drivey Lex icon. I look like him at least once in each of my lessons

And your story sounds like me on a regular basis. LOL!

I've been driving for... eight years. I've got kick-ass reflexes and have managed to avoid some massive accidents due to said reflexes.

I still can't parallel park worth a damn.

I remember the first time I drove on the highway and kept up with the traffic; it was too much fun.

I passed my test at 19, rarely drove after that until I found myself trying to walk a 5 yr old to school, 3 1/2 yr old to playschool and a new baby - in all weathers. It made me take a refresher course and get my own car (in case I bumped hubbies) - and guess what? I still don't like driving 17 years later!!
