I can't do this anymore. I hate Smallville and every week I have to force myself to watch it, after which I feel like a bit of my soul has been lost.

I'm done!

It's not conductive to my writing, and in fact every week pushes me further away from Clex so I'm stopping. I'm not going to watch any more, I'm not going to read about what happens, I'm just going to bury myself in the old episodes that I like and live in a happy land of denial

*nods*

You know what I do? I download them, and the eps sit for a couple of days, and then when I have nothing else to do, I play it and fast forward to the Lex parts, and maybe a few parts where I see no Lana. That's it. And half the time I don't even do that.

It's just not the same show anymore, ya know? It doesn't even feel like they're the same PEOPLE. (Was there some kind of major writer shift?) The only one I'm holding out for is probably going to be the SERIES finale, where Clark is Superman. That's it.

Well I'm still in the land of season 3, which does make me a whole lot happier than season 7, but I'm still going to watch because I want to see what they are going to do with Lex. I'm holding out for something big and dramatic rather than random killings.

I still haven't worked up the effort to watch the last tweo episodes. I mean, I always swore I'd be the dieheard, but I didn't think it would be like this.

Yeah, these days I hate Clark which is so not how I should be feeling about this show. It's HIS show.

At the moment Lex doesn't seem to be doing anything. He's just sort of there, hanging around in the background and doing the occasional evil deed.

I can just bet Michael is counting the days until he can leave

No, it's awful. I quite liked S7 at the start and I don't know what's gone wrong along the way but I can't stand any of them now.

I miss Lois!

I live with spoilers and screencaps - have since S5-4. That's enough to keep me going in the land of denial. :-D

I'm not even sure I want to know what happens

Ooo, that bad was it?

And yeah I know what you mean, it's been hard to watch and the only thing keeping me hanging on is Michael. Once he leaves, I go with him, and go back to the early seasons when Smallville was love.

*pets you* I feel your pain, babe.

I'll probably stick with it to the bitter end - because I'm masochistic that way - but I understand why you'd rather not. Most of the time I don't even recognize these characters anymore. And these new writers they're bringing in are even worse than the old ones, which I didn't think was possible.

So I get why Michael wants to leave - and I have to wonder if Tom's only sticking with it because his movie career hasn't taken off. It's sad, but I feel the same way about Smallville that I did about X-Files during its last couple of years - when is this going to be over already??

Bittermint, your icon is AWESOME! (And probably true, hahaha! It would explain how . . . gleeful Lex seemed during last week's episode!)

I think Michael has the guts to leave because he has been getting good offers, and that Tom is just being careful about what he does besides Smallville ever since that dismal remake of The Fog that he did. (Where all he really did was stand around and look worried, and then pretty, and then worried again.) That's a wise decision, IMO.

Aww! SV drives away yet another fan!

I'm a completist, so I need to watch till the bitter end (or until Michael leaves, anyway), but I often really envy the people who stopped watching after season 3. Those people probably still have the happy memories.

I wish I could tell you to hang on because there's that chance that the show might get better again, but I haven't believed that myself for a couple of years now.

Enjoy your happy denial!

Thanks for the icon love. Back atcha! ;)

Actually, Michael's movie career isn't doing much better than Tom's. Kickin' It Old Skool was pretty damn painful to watch. Even the actual star, Jamie Kennedy, didn't want to do publicity for it! I heard Mikey's in talks to become the new Freddy Krueger in that Nightmare on Elm Street remake, but as I recall, his last foray into horror films wasn't terribly successful - and he had Wes Craven directing him, not that crapmeister Michael Bay. But I suppose it'll make money, which is all anybody in Hollywood cares about.

They're just saying the lines and picking up their paychecks. I guess, all things considered, they're happy to be working.

If you're anything like me, the show probably lost some of its appeal to you when its characterizations went crazy. In the early seasons, the writers were so concentrated on making sure the characters had layers. It was all about the relationships back then (And not necessarily the romantic ones. Look at how complicated and intriguing Lex's relationship with his father used to be. Clark's relationship with his parents was the same way)--not whatever Superman mythology they could throw in. I still find it amazing that back in S1, Clark didn't know anything about his origins, but the show was still more appealing. It's like they've gotten to the point where they think they can fix everything by throwing elements of the comics and Superman story at us. Those relationships and characterizations that used to really make the show are fading away, changed weekly to fit whatever plot device the writers want to use.

If I stopped watching, my love of SV would vanish pretty quickly. And the insidious thing about this show is that even though nothing ever happens, and it's perfectly clear how the story will end, I keep wanting to find out what happens next. (SV has eaten my logic.)

Well, Michael was mostly in KIOS as a favor to Jamie Kennedy, as something to keep him busy over the summer. He seemed to enjoy it!

Actually, Shear Love is where you see the man's genius. If the right person sees what he's truly capable of, he'll have an awesome career!

Not sure if the Freddy thing is just a rumor . . . last I knew, he was in talks to do a horror flick with Michael Bay. House of Eternity, I think it's called?

Exactly! Lex was the sole reason I got sucked into this show in the first place. Wow, here's a character that is so much more than a two dimensional villian

Now he is just a two dimensional villain :(

He is great in Shear Love, but unfortunately, nobody in Hollywood gives a crap about low-budget indie short films. I doubt it's going to help him land more work.

I'll watch it for you. If anything interesting happens I'll let you know.

You hit the nail right on the head! I couldn't have said it better.

I, too, find myself going back to seasons 1-3 (and a bit of 4), to find my happy place again, and to find a cool, suave, dangerous, mesmerizing Lex again. Whatever depth the show had, has long since been lost.
