When I went to buy my lunch this morning I was shocked to read on several newpaper front pages that Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with cancer and only has a few weeks to live.

The BBC paints a much more positive picture

I'm much more likely to trust the beeb than I am The Express and The Sun

The tabloids (incl. Fox News *eg*) sure followed the National Inquirer's report, while more "serious" media liek the beeb waited for news from a more reliable source like his agent and doctor.

Yeah, it just goes to show you shouldn't believe everything you read in the papers

Indeed!

I was in a tabloid once, and they lied about me, too.... *g*

I was at a charity tennis match, and this TV show for kids had already made a 15 min segment on me (took all day!) and for some reason this tabloid was there too (granted, the tennis players were famous) and wrote that "[it] was the best thing that ever happened to me" and that "[my] parents drove the happiest girl in the world home". Little did they, and those who saw the TV show, know that the part where the reporter and I followed the ball with our eyes was staged! *eg*

Oh, and I should perhaps add that I was ten at the time. *g*

Hehe! Well, at least they didn't say mean thing about you. Or claim that you only had weeks to live

Good point. My case looks quite pale in comparison, doesn't it?

While pancreatic cancer is very, very serious, the national news media reports that he's doing as well as can be expected.

Oh, I'm not saying it's not serious. It's just not as bad as the tabloids made out (one said he only has days to live)

I hear he's released his own statement saying yes he has cancer, but that he's not as bad as first reported. This is sad. I love Patrick!

Yeah, that's what the BBC said. The newspapers were all 'PATRICK SWAYZE IS GOING TO DIE RIGHT NOW' *eyeroll*
