I'm curious. If you had to choose between Doctor Who (Eccleston onwards) or Torchwood which would it be. I appreciate Torchwood wouldn't exist without Doctor Who but take them as seperate entities for a moment. I'm sure there are people who like Angel better than Buffy too.

I prefer Angel to Buffy. As a whole, when Angel was bad, it was still good. When Buffy was bad, it was painful.

I'm not sure which I prefer. I like them both.

Last Dr. Who I watched was the clockwork people... Just got too busy to watch primetime TV.

Yeah, that's quite an old one now. It's strange because overall I think Doctor Who is structurally better than Torchwood but I just like Torchwood better and I don't know why

It's more than just the boykissing

I've not watched much of the new series of Torchwood, but I liked the team aspect of it last time round - there being 4 of them, there's usually at least 1 you can like each episode even if the rest are being complete dickheads idiots - Dr. Who has less of that.

Also, more snark in Torchwood.

Hee! Yes, I love the snark! And the team has been a lot better this year. I don't particularly hate any of them.

Oh Oh! Really cannot choose. I mean, I only watch the new Dr Who because of David wanting to watch it, and even then am usually on the computer. Then I missed big chunks of Season 1 of Torchwood because I forgot it was on.....I guess I am not the biggest fan of the series now....not like Dr Who when I was a child.

Hehe!!! I was never into the old series of Doctor Who. Mostly because I was too scared ;)

I have way too many years invested in
DW
, past and present versions, while
TW
annoys me because of its wasted potential. I watch both, of course. (And I'm willing to make an exception for anything with JM in it.)And I prefer
Buffy
to
Angel
FWIW.

Yeah, I was never into Doctor Who in the old days. My dad likes it though so I watched the new series with him and just got into it.

Torchwood has many flaws but I still love it and I have no idea why. LOL!

As much as I adore Jack as a character and the whole Jack/Ianto thing they've got going, I much prefer Doctor Who.

I think my main problem is that the bad episodes of Doctor Who are so much worse (Cyberwoman aside) than the bad episodes of Torchwood

It's not that I don't like Doctor Who, I'd just choose Torchwood if I had to pick

But the good episodes of Doctor Who are just streets ahead of Torchwood - take Blink for example - that was stunning and of course I just adore David Tennant. Did I tell you I am going to see him (and the divine Patrick Stewart) in Hamlet this summer? I think this series of Torchwood is much more consistent and more confident than the first. Some of those - especially Countrycide - were appalling.

Hee! I'm going to see him in Hamlet in September *g*

And I agree that the good episodes of Doctor Who are much better than the good episodes of Torchwood. Blink was AMAZING!

When are you seeing Hamlet?

August 23rd; we're seeing "A Midsummer's Night Dream' that afternoon too so I shall be all Shakespeare'd out!

Wow! That's going to be a great day!

I'm really excited. Never been to Stratford before and it's been a dream of mine since I was at school, and I get to see David Tennant and Patrick Stewart

While I enjoy watching Doctor Who, I'm much more a part of the Torchwood fandom than DW. In many ways I do think Doctor Who is the better programme... but Torchwood is the one that I get fangirly about.

...

and the pretty boys kissing does help too ^_^

Not a fair question, because I've been a DW fan since forever. I love it. I like Torchwood, sometimes in spite of itself.

I don't differentiate between 'old' Doctor Who and 'new' Doctor Who.

In some ways I like Angel better than Buffy. And not just depending which season Spike was in :)

Well, I never watched old DW which is why I was specific about it :)

If I had to choose, it would be Torchwood because it's for mature audiences. I love Doctor Who - ever since Tom Baker - but it doesn't seem as intense (most of the time). It's something that I feel comfortable watching with The TeenKid, but Torchwood - that's an altogether different thing. I usually wait til he's at his father's.

No interruptions. No one around to say, "Can we watch something else? Something that I can watch too?" Or "are you done YET???"

I dunno - I think that there have been some stunning episodes of DW - the Blink one and the one where he was a teacher at the school spring to mind.

But then I liked the TW one where the time line was overlapping and Cpt John was pretty good too.

I suppose like most series there are good and bad episodes for each one, but I think DW comes out just a little bit ahead at the moment for me. :)

This was a really difficult thing to choose. I love both the shows - however all in all, Doctor Who frustrates me the most. It's Russel T. Davies influence over it, when his influence is minimal, it can be fantastic, when his influence is obvious, and strong those episodes are fucking awful. He loves Doctor Who, but he always does one of two things - dis-regard what makes Doctor Who great, or exaggerate it to the Nth degree. There's no balance. That said, I still watch it, over and over, and David Tennant will forever be in my books one of the best doctors.

I picked Torchwood as it's less frustrating, it's more honest with itself, and it's a perfect vehicle for Russel T. Davies influence. It fits with the show, and the characters, it doesn't piss all over cannon, it doesn't compromise the essence of one of the greatest television heroes of the past four decades.

As to Buffy and Angel, I do prefer Angel, by a large margin. I think it helped that it was cut off in it's prime, where as Buffy was fun at first but got tired to me. Plus the time slot they were created for helped.

Dr Who is fantastic, and I think David Tennant is amazing but...

Torchwood is fantastic and more 'adult' i.e. darker and sexier ergo, my vote goes for Torchwood.
