Now that I've watched all the Frasier DVDs I have it's time to plough through the enormous pile of unwatched films I have next to the TV.

Richard E. Grant was on QI a couple of days ago so I decided to start with Withnail and I, since [livejournal.com profile] jacqui_hw had never seen it.

It's a wonderful film! A brilliant contrast of farcical comedy and bleak depression. Half the time you're not sure whether you should be laughing or not.

I have even more respect for Richard E. Grant after learning that he is teetotal and the only time he ever got drunk was once before they started filming this so he could see what it was like.

Paul Mcgann is incredibly pretty in this and I always feel sad at the end when he's cut off all his lovely hair.

Richard Griffiths is brilliant as Uncle Monty.

If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it.

Heehee, I was watching Withnail and I a couple of weeks ago when I found out that my best friend had never seen it, then again a week later when my housemate told me she hadn't see it either. I'd not watched it in years, I'd almost forgotten just how much I love it.

Also, I loved Richard E Grant on QI, he just came up with the most random stuff ever. And then if he didn't know it he made something ever more random

... now I want to go and watch The Scarlet Pimpernel. Can't go wrong with Richard E Grant, Jamie Bamber and James Callis in period costume ^_^

Hee! I have The Scarlet Pimpernel on DVD. I wish they'd made more of it (and that Jamie hadn't been killed in the first episode)

We just (re)watched Withnail the other day (& watched that documentary on the DVD too).

Oddly, even though both of us prefer long hair on, like, everyone, we agreed that Paul McGann looks prettier with the short hair at the end...I think it's the way it shows off his bone structure & stuff. Bizarre...

Hehe! And I'm the opposite. I don't normally like long hair but I liked Paul's. I don't even know why. Hehe!

OMG, yes, it was!
And it's amazing how fast the quotes stick in your head. I could quote half the movie after having watched it three times. :D

One of my favourite ever movies: "Don't threaten me with a dead fish!"

Have you read Richard E. Grant's diaries? He's a great writer.
