Books I've read this year

1. The Life of Nelson - Robert Southey
2. The Last Days of Krypton - Kevin J. Anderson
I know a few people on my flist are reading this at the moment so I shall place my review under a cut
Overall I liked it. Even though I knew how it was going to end I still cried.
What I don't understand is why Ursa and Non from Superman 2 were renamed in this book. Is it a copyright thing?
It was nice to see Zor-El portrayed in a positive light after what SV did to him. Can anyone explain what happens next? I'm not overly familiar with the Supergirl history and the book ends with Argo City protecting itself in a shield, before Kara has even been conceived. What happens to Argo City?
The only slight flaw in this book is that Lara is really bland and her relationship with Jor-El is too. I had a really hard time believing the love between them and was almost surprised when Jor-El asks Lara to marry him. LOL
General Zod, Aethyr and Nam-Ek were all perfectly captured. I get the feeling these were the characters he really wanted to write about and he just had to slot everyone else in around them. Hehe!
I'd give this 4/5
Next on the list is This Thing of Darkness by Harry Thompson. Don't know much about this one. Picked it up initially because it had a pretty ship on the cover. LOL! Then I read the blurb and it sounded interesting, although I bought it so long ago I can't actually remember what it's about. Hehe!

Date: 2008-02-21 04:26 pm (UTC)Those were the names of the two Kryptonians that arrived in the Season 5 starter, Arrival.
I'm reading it and the style is very stiff. It reads like fanfiction, which I guess is what it really is...
It's interesting to see how the writer weaved in some of the canon stuff, I haven't read all of it yet, but I'm more than halfway through. Overall, it's an enjoyable read so far.
