Why is iTunes so bloody complicated?!

Look at the sheer amount of faff I have to read to move my music

What the hell is wrong with drag and drop? You just select all your music on the ipod, copy and paste into a folder on my external hard drive. Simple! There is no need for all this nonsense.

Honestly, I love my pod but the software annoys the hell out of me.

This is why I will never buy a Mac.

Should have got a Creative Zen. Apple stole their technology - and were caught and forced to pay 810 million dollars for it - but they wrote their own software and they regarded making it totally incompatible with everyone else (as part of their plan to create a monopoly) as much more important than frivolous things like user-friendliness.

While I don't have a Zen, I have a Creative and it's fabulous. No wonder Apple stole it. ;-þ

I made a mistake on my original comment - I put 810 million when the correct figure was 100 million - and I was just using the exciting new 'edit comment' feature to stop myself looking a total idiot when you replied and stopped me editing it.

I looked at one actually, but they were a lot more expensive and with less space. I guess this is why *pouts*

They're built to a much higher standard. iPods are notorious for breaking down the second the warranty expires, whereas my daughter dropped her Zen in a sink of hot water and it started working again as soon as it dried out.

That's impressive!

Well, I know what I'll be buying as soon as my iPod dies. LOL!

Ahahahahaha! My brother is an obnoxious Mac user! I would love to point him to this post and laugh at him! :D

I hated iTunes so much, I only had it on my computer for about 2 hours before I uninstalled it. I was just thinking of using it for buying .mp3's. I don't have an iPod. When I told brother what an evil bad software it was, he said, Oh! You must have an old version! I just said, "Do. Not. Want."

Hehe! Hey, let him read it if you want. I am still annoyed. LOL!

Because it's owned by Apple. It's obviously targeted at people who don't mind calling customer support a lot. :-þ

Nah. They'll probably just say it's Error 60 (most computer users sit 60 cm from the screen) and laugh at you behind your back... ;-þ

It's one of the things I hate about my iPod - that and the fact I can't burn the music onto a disk to play in my car without converting it back to an MP3!!

Stupid thing!!

Pretty, shiny and sleek (I have a black one which looks so cool!). See - I like the iPod, but I HATE iTunes (I'm convinced one of the updates screwed up our 'puter just before Christmas!!).

That's exactly how I feel and it sucks you have to use iTunes to make your iPod work

*grumbles*

I knew nothing of this! I don't have an iPod, but I do have iTunes in both my PCs, and love it. What's difficult, babe, to transfer songs from the iTunes to the iPod?

No, I want to save the stuff from my ipod onto my hard drive, but because it's only compatible with iTunes it won't let me

Pretty icon btw! *strokes*

I know I'm the Apple apologist, but for the record the reason it's so difficult to move songs from your iPod to your hard drive is because of security measures that are mandated by the record companies, not Apple. In order to give you access to so many songs on iTunes (to purchase), contractually Apple had to modify their software to make sharing (stealing) music difficult. Steve Jobs has repeatedly said that if it were up to him, all the "protection" code would be removed. Go here to see something he wrote on the subject:

http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughtsonmusic/

The key is to use your computer as the source for all downloads, then upload to your iPod. The drag and drop feature works perfectly within the iTunes software on your computer. The iPod itself, because it is designed to upload and play music from any source, without barriers, necessarily hits those security barriers when you try to move content in the other direction.

None of which relieves any of your frustration, I know. Sorry!

Yeah, I mean it's not a problem at the moment but if it ever breaks I'm going to permanently lose all the stuff I got from Lexi. It's just annoying is all

I must be a minority because I absolutely love and swear by iTunes. When my laptop died and I bought a new computer, I had to transfer my songs from my iPod to my harddrive. I found a transfer shareware program online that did it in about twenty minutes (for 4k+ songs), so I don't have that problem. What I do wish was that you could share music between iPods and users.

I use iTunes 24/7 and get all the updates. I hear people have difficulty burning cds, but all the cds I make play in my car and my car stereo only plays cd-format - not mp3. Weird. I used to use WinAmp to play all my music, but iTunes is so much nicer. You just have to update the bastard constantly.

And sadly iPods break a wee bit to easily. I am on my second one already but I love the precious shiny. I plan on buying a 160gb when I have the money (hahahaha)! Mine is black and 30gb. I wish they made different colors like the nano . . .

What software did you use? That's all I want to do really, is put my stuff onto the hard drive as a backup in case my iPod breaks
