Ask me to choose between Batman and Superman and it's Supes for me every time.

Yesterday, though, I was suprised to find that as of yet no portrayal of Bruce and Batman in the media has done the role justice. Christian Bale is by far the best of the bunch so far but still there's just something not quite right about him. I can't put my finger on what it is though

When I was capping Batman Returns at the weekend I realised that while the Burton Batman movies are my favourites I'm not so happy with Keaton. His Batman is pretty good but his Bruce is less so.

The less said about Val Kilmer the better and let us never speak of George Clooney again. LOL.

What do you think? I'm especially interested in what the fans of the comics think. Has anyone portrayed Bruce and Batman they way he should be on screen?

None of them work for me. I have come to the conclusion that the role is uncastable. There isn't an actor in the world who could do it justice.

I watched a bit of Batman Returns the other day and I agree the Keaton's Batman is probably the best but his Bruce is all wrong. Bale's Bruce is closest to comics Bruce, except that he's too short and he doesn't look quite right. Basically, the Bruce in my head is the one I'm most happy with. *g*

Hehe! I think I have reached the same conclusion :)

George Clooney as batman? LOLZ!!!

Hee! Christian Bale is definitely pretty but I'm not sure he has the right level of presence. The second film will decide it.

I went to see Batman and Robin because I still had a post-ER crush on George Clooney. Even that was not enough to stop me wanting to claw my own eyes out.

OMG LOL! You too??? Oh how I loved George Clooney, but seeing Batman & Robin?? I just cringed through the whole thing. It was quite painful.

I think Bale does a great Bruce Wayne, no doubt about that. But I think you're right. As Batman, something is lacking. But he's definately better than Kilmer or Clooney! NO ONE touches Michael Keaton though.

That's the problem with serial movies. I know the actors age, so at some point you have to change them out. But sheesh, some of their choices??? Definately a case of Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!

I will, of course, be seeing the next installment cos Bale is teh yummy! What can I say? I'm a freak. LOL!

Hehe! Well, you know I would love to, but calling the US from here would be a bit expensive

As I don't care for any of these pumped up ponces in tights, I shall take the opportunity to despair about what happened to my beloved John Constantine. Keanu Reeves! Oh the humanity!

LOL! I never even bothered watching it. Casting Keanu Reeves is always a bad decision unless you're making Bill and Ted

I can't bear to look, and I don't even dislike Keanu, terrible actor that he so totally is.

That made me laugh (okay, snort)! Mmmmmm Constantine! I think I'll watch that when I go home.

I, too, avoided Constantine.

Really, the idea of a feature film was absurd; It should have been done as a series of "HBO specials", and left uncut.

I consider it more of a boycott.

I agree. Hellblazer done properly would be fantastic.

I have never really found a Bat that makes me or my Muses happy. I like Val's Bruce but not his Bat. I didn't mind Bale, but I think he's very wooden as an actor and I think there should be more passion in the Bat. Yeah the Bat is tall, dark, and broody, but there must be power to him, a presence or the whole caped crusader thing doesn't work.

Keaton's my favorite Bat (of the ones on film) but not my favorite Bruce. Maybe the role is too complex to be played by one person.

Maybe. A different actor playing Bruce and Batman. That's a really interesting idea!

Maybe that's what I should do when my Muses pout. Cast one person for Bats and one for Bruce. ;)

Kevin Conroy.

So what if he's animated?

Though of the movie ones, I'm for Keaton. I think Clooney might have been okay if they'd played it like his character in From Dusk Til Dawn.

What an interesting post!
When I first heard that Keaton was going to be Batman, I nearly had a fit, I waas so angry. How the hell was Mr. Mom going to be Batman? lol! I was floored when I saw the film. He was and still is, the best Batman ever. But Bruce...I don't think anyone gets it, really. One quibble I have is that all of the Bats have been too short and too thin.

Yeah, I imagine Batman to be big and broad

Like Tom, only not, because he's Superman ;)
