Temptation
Nov. 30th, 2007 11:14 amI am very close to buying myself an 80GB ipod. It entirely depends how much money I have at the end of the month. I'd love to have one before I fly to the US so I can watch videos and stuff on the plane.
If not it might make sense to buy one while I'm out there. The price in Wal-Mart is slightly cheaper than they are over here. Only about £30 cheaper but that's still a pretty good saving
We shall see I guess...

Date: 2007-11-30 02:12 pm (UTC)I had to buy a club for my car there a few weeks ago. I still haven't fessed up to even having entered the store. (Until... now, apparently.)

Date: 2007-11-30 02:30 pm (UTC)They can charge so cheaply because they pay their employees crap, essentially. My family calls them the 'evil empire.'
It's this weird double-standard. Wal-Mart pays it's employees well below the poverty level, but then since everything is so cheap their employees are sometimes forced to shop there, too, since that's the only place they can afford.
Me? I go to Target. Comparable prices, sometimes cheaper, and I don't feel guilty afterwards. :)
(Sorry - some friends and I recently had a REALLY long discussion on Wal-Mart, so I'm still a little bit revved up from it. Me buying a club there was because I was flipping out at 11pm at night.)

Date: 2007-11-30 02:36 pm (UTC)I tend to buy from US online shops a lot because it works out so much cheaper.
To be honest I will probably buy the ipod before I travel so I won't need to go to the den of evil ;)

Date: 2007-11-30 02:52 pm (UTC)And I know that when I buy from the UK, it feels like I'm spending twice as much as what it's marked. Silly exchange rates. Our dollar value is dropping, though... so you guys might catch up soon. Canada is almost even with us now.
Where are you going in the US, by the way?

Date: 2007-11-30 02:59 pm (UTC)Yeah, I remember a few years ago I went to Canada and then on to the US from there. I got $2 Canadian for every £1 I had but only about $1.50 US for every £1
These days it's about the same $2 for £1
Good for me, not so good for you.
Over here an 80GB ipod is £145. If I get one from Wal-Mart it's $240 which is about £120

Date: 2007-11-30 03:47 pm (UTC)I do agree that getting one here would be preferable but it's just a case of whether I have the money before I fly out

Date: 2007-11-30 07:20 pm (UTC)It is great to have during layovers in the airport, on public transportation, and in your room before bed while traveling, though. The 80GB one holds a ton. Mine has all my music, a bunch of videos from YouTube, plus episodes of Supernatural, Chuck, Heroes, and The Office. I only have a couple of movies on it so far.
I also bought an extra battery pack, that's good for another 5 hours and is rechargeable. Okay, end of commercial! LOL!

Date: 2007-12-01 11:22 pm (UTC)However, I don't have a laptop, and a laptop can do everything an iPod can (and so much more, obviously), just in a bigger package.
