I saw this on [livejournal.com profile] mysticmoonstorm's LJ and I was curious so I investigated

Why not just buy a book?

Perhaps I am becoming old fashioned in my slowly advancing years but I would much rather have a book than one of these.

The only benefit for me would be if I could store all my favourite fics on it.

I wouldn't want one either - I mean, sure, it's nice for carrying multiple books around, but there's that part of me that enjoys turning pages, just feeling the book in my hands.

Yeah, I agree :)

I completely agree. I don't think I'll ever get used to the idea of e-books. I would rather buy a book- even if I had to buy a used book! Heh.

I love used books. I've got some great old ones that I've picked up really cheap. I love one of my Hornblower books that's from the 1930s

I adore my PDA which has hundreds of my CLex fics on it. It goes everywhere with me. (That reminds me, it's almost time to re-sync).

As fast as I read, I'd have to carry around way too many books.

It's even great for reading in bed without disturbing Gary or in the car at night - no more running out of batteries in book lights that never quite work right.

With my arthritis, it's also a whole lot easier to hold.

I looked at the e-books and nixed it because they were too big and clumsy and didn't have nearly enough storage space. I use a 1 gig memory card in my PDA.

Yeah, I quite fancy a PDA. I have my laptop which serves me well enough for my fic needs though :)

I can see the appeal for a book that is virtual and never likely to be hard copy (like a fanfic), but I love books.

The smell of a new book or the look of an older book is just too good. Also I like having them on bookshelves and you couldn't do that - and very difficult to share a book with someone else?

Our books go from one to other of us and we all read them in the family, so you'd have all the fuss of downloading and re-uploading and then what happens if it goes wrong or the batteries die....

Nope - I'm sticking with the real deal I think. Although I do have a lot of fanfics on my pda that's different...

Yeah, I am considering a PDA for fics but for actual books I'll stick with the real thing

Oh don't get me wrong - I still prefer real books. However, if I had this I could sneakily read at work and it would also be a bit easier for when I sit and play pit orchestras or have long periods of rest in band and orchestra rehearsals. That and it will fit in my purse (the last book I shoved into my purse is STILL trying to recover). *sigh*
So while this would never replace books for me, it would help me read more in places where I maybe shouldn't be reading at all! *innocent look*

Hee! Well, that's different. Stealth reading. I love it!

The Kindle looks clunky and that turns me off. Now, the Sony eReader -- there's something that's on the right track (though it'd be nice if they'd become Mac compatible).

I can't see going totally ebook, but I can see the advantage of having an ebook reader for vacations and things like that -- you could have a variety without having to cart a bunch of books around. I might consider them for things such as series romance where I know it's unlikely I'll read the book again and it's difficult to dispose of (the local book stores don't want them).

But Amazon's on the wrong track with the Kindle and it's hardly the greatest thing since sliced bread -- oh, and it downloads directly from Amazon, so you don't have the books on your computer, just on the Kindle. That's another problem.

Yeah, the more I hear about it the more I think The Kindle sounds a bit rubbish, even if I wanted an ebook reader, which I don't. LOL
