*cries* It hurts! It hurts me!

The Clana sex was mildly amusing but it was pretty much downhill from there.

I think my main problem is that it was just SO BADLY WRITTEN!!! I was watching the Lexana scene and it just confused the hell out of me. I couldn't follow what they were talking about. First Lana wanted to expose Lex, then she wanted to kill him. Lex was trying to explain how he was protecting people but Lana seemed to think that was even more of a reason to kill him.

Then they kissed and I wanted to scratch my eyes out. WHY DOES HE STILL LOVE HER? OMG!!!

*brain explodes*

But the killing blow came in the final Clex scene where Lex told Clark Lana was the way she is because of him. I'll admit the little talk about the power of obsession was nice, since it essentially means that even though Lex loves Lana his obsession with Clark is greater. But then Lex was gloating that Lana still has feeling for him and it made me want to drive a metal bar through my brain.

Lana might want to be held accountable for her actions but she won't be. Clark is falling over himself to say it's all his fault, Lex thinks it's all Clark's fault too and thank Christ for Chloe who seems to be the only one who sees Lana for what she really is.

Strangely the only thing I liked was Grant, now that I know he is more than he seems.

Oh, and the path is being laid for Braniac to come back. Hi James!

Someone remind me why I still watch this show please? It just hurt all the more because I watched a load of really great episodes last night and now I see what my show has been reduced to.

WHY DOES HE STILL LOVE HER? OMG!!!

Both the kiss and the gloating didn't look to me as if they were about *love*. Lex wants Lana to have feelings for him, yeah, but not because he thinks he still has a chance with her. It was about winning, against both Clark and Lana, because the kiss proves that Lex is not entirely undesirable. Clark and Lana have been acting as if he *forced* Lana into the marriage from the start, which Lex simply didn't. Since Lex explained that in Lex-logic, the presence of obsession proves the presence of love, he now has proof that at one time, Lana did love/want him, so he went, "ha ha you're wrong and deluded and I didn't force her and you're just as guilty as I am in making her the way she is now". Lex wasn't gloating about Lana, but about his moral victory.

And imho, the scenes between Chloe and Lana and Clark and Lana at the end look like maybe SV isn't going to cop out of Lana's moral descent. Maybe the writer's strike will save us? *g*

Totally agree with you that the kiss and later talk of Lana to CLark was a way to prove something. I don't think that either Lex or CLark truly loved Lana for who she actually is. Partly because she was so different with each of them, but also because they were both in love with what she represented to them. Funny enough, they both think she makes them more normal and human. I do feel bad for Lana in that respect cause I think she does have feelings for both of them.

Hmm...I'm not sure anything could make me feel bad for Lana these days but that mostly because the writers turned her into a Mary Sue

Following that line of thought: are Clark and Lex actually not competing about Lana, but about who is more normal and human? About who's the better man? Clark raised her to a symbol for everything good and normal first, and in S5/6 Lex is using her to prove that Clark (and Lionel) is wrong about him being an evil freak? And now he gloats because actually, neither of them can have "good and normal"?

Lana is the weirdest character ever. Status symbol, cypher, Mary Sue, damsel in distress and villainess all in one package.

I think that is part of their continued struggle with each other. Lex definitely wanted to use Lana to prove many things to Lionel and CLark, maybe even the world.

Yes, she's a chameleon.

Not only that but I think Lex wanted to prove something to himself too. Lana became what Clark was to him in the earlier seasons

And I think that's where I have a problem with her. She encompasses everything which, to me, makes her totally unbelievable as a character.

It is hard to believe anything she becomes a part of. her character is all over the place. Artist, business woman, student, astronomy interests, foundation owner, spy. What kind of person is this? PLus, I know she went through a lot with the idea that she was pregnant and then found it was all a lie but how does that make a person go from caring and sweet to kidnapper and murderer. The girl has problems and I'm glad that Clark is finally seeing some of it.

Oh, I totally agree! I was so pleased when Lionel told Clark that Lana was the one who kidnapped him

i just watched this today. i have never bought her as some kind of criminal genius. just not. still, she really should be held accountable, as you say.

I mean I do respect her for telling Clark not to blame himself and that she should be held accountable. It's just frustrating because I don't think the writers will.

Inevitably it will likely wind up being Lex's fault

i think you're right about the blame accruing to lex. alas.

I thought the same thing about the kiss on first view, but second time through, it seemed more like Lex attempting to distract her from killing him, not because he really wanted to kiss her. Just FWIW.

I do tend to fanwank in the extreme, but here's how I see it.

Lex has only ever wanted Lana because of what she means to Clark. I think what Lex wants most is for Clark to come over to the dark side, because if he did, they could finally truly be together, and together they could rule the world. If he can't have that, he will try to control everyone Clark cares about instead, taking Lana, experimenting on Chloe, manipulating Lois through Grant, and now investigating Kara. It's all about power, and proving himself to Clark.

Every time I rewatch that scene between Clark and Lex where Lex talks about obsession and love, I get something else out of it. Michael was so amazing in that scene! I think every word he uttered was about him and Clark, and Clark understood that. Lex was saying that he loved Clark, but Clark killed that, and all that remains is Lex's obsession with him. And that Clark created the Lex who stands before him, a product of years of Clark's secrets and lies. Lana? Lana who?

I think the final scene between Clark and Lana actually showed Clark getting a clue. I mean, the cynic in me knows the show will fuck it up, but for now I can hope! :)

And in spite of everything that drives me crazy about this show, I will always watch it for the pretty! :)

I really don't want to watch the episode again but I might watch the Clex scenes again and see if it changes my mind. My post was an immediate gut reaction to the end of the episode

Really I need to watch it again if I'm going to get any sort of inspiration for this weeks coda

I live in a happy land called denial. Since I can't actually watch the eps and learn about them second hand, I can make this all a part of Lex's ebil plan to utterly destroy Lana because of how many times she tormented Clark!

Lana might want to be held accountable for her actions but she won't be. Clark is falling over himself to say it's all his fault...

When Jay told me about this, my first thought was "OMG! Clark could give Bruce lessons on how to have a guilt trip!" Even Bats doesn't get this crazy over the guilt. *facepalm*

I mean I get where he's coming from I guess. No one wants to think they're boyfriend/girlfriend is capable of kidnap and torture. He's just trying to get his head around the fact that Lana isn't the perfect girl he has in his head. Which I wish to hell he'd done about 4 seasons ago. LOL
