Yeah, I'm way behind with this

Yeah, this is what I'm talking about! Proper, classic Supernatural. It was even a little bit scary, but still not up to the Season 1 standards.

I really enjoyed it though. I love the whole 'fairy tales are actually sinister as hell' thing and I've been wondering if SPN was ever going to have a go at it. Well done Kripke! Good job.

Does Lucifer hold Dean's contract? Because I will be fascinated if that's the case. Will we ever see him I wonder? OOH, I'm all excited now and this is the first time I've been properly excited since the season began.

YAY!

And I get another episode tomorrow. WHEE!!!

Random rec: If you liked this episode read The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter.

I agree that this was awesomely classic SPN! Two boys and an Impala fighting the big bad! It had just enough mythology angst to move that arc forward. And although it was a little distracting, I enjoyed watching Jared act opposite his RL girlfriend.

I liked the fairy tale theme too. In the middle of that first scene with the three brothers it hit me, and I yelled at the television, "OMG it's the three little pigs!" That was hilarious! :)

The little girl was wonderful. I think she had about the biggest eyes I've ever seen. She did a great job with all those silent looks, the perfect balance between innocent and creepy.

Oh, yeah, I loved the little girl.

Who is Jared's RL girlfriend?

Sandy McCoy, who played the Crossroads Demon, has been Jared's girlfriend since before Supernatural started. I think maybe they met on the set of Cry Wolf?

Ahh!!! I didn't realise. Aww, and he had to shoot her.

I'll bet it was more like he got to shoot her! They seem like they would have had fun with it. I'm kind of dying to see the outtakes. :)

Yeah, is was good just to see them working together again without a tons of other new hunters in the way.

Exactly! And the whole thing wasn't bogged down by the demon plot. Just a little bit at the end to move things along. All episodes should be like this one, well maybe not all, but more.

Or just have more dispersed within the rest. Having said that, I've liked all the eps so far.

I may be speaking heresy here, but I have to say I haven't thought a single ep of SPN as duff. There are a couple I'm not so keen on in hindsight, Born under a Bad Sign, Bloodlust, Something Wicked (for the OTT melodrama!) etc, but they've all had great moments in them. I can't say that for Buffy.

I would have to agree with you there. Pretty good going for a show that's in its third season

I liked this one a lot too - lots of little things. That fight at the beginning where Dean's all "Because I said so!" and Sam's got his bitchface on.

And then Sam's all "I'm thinking fairytales" and Dean's all "You think of fairytales often?"

I've never actually read the Grimm brothers' fairy tales - I mean I know that pretty much every Disney movie is taken from horror stories and made all pretty, but are they very creepy?

Plus, there was this:

Aww!!! Sleepy Dean!!! Cute!!!

I haven't read any of the original fairy tales either but I want to.

That book I recced at the end of my post is a modern version of classic fairy tales, but taken back to their original horror roots.
