I just realised whilst chatting with [livejournal.com profile] cinderella81 that it's entirely possible that Lana is working with Lionel to spy on Lex. I mean he's got to be one of the only people that knows how Lex's security system works. It makes sense, right? Lex would never suspect Lionel since everyone thinks he's dead. Or am I clutching at straws here?

I was also having an interesting discussion with [livejournal.com profile] redeem147 in the comments to my original Cure post about how Lana and Clana ties in with what we saw in Labyrinth last season.

Redeem: I think Lana is a two-faced liar who doesn't want Clark to see her dark side, cause he prefers Stepford Lana.
Hils: Yeah, Clark really does prefer Stepford Lana. We saw that in Labyrinth last season. Which makes me wonder what he wants Lex to be, given that in his mind Lex had no legs and Chloe died.

Those are maybe the 'twisted thoughts' Bizarro talked about.

It's entirely possible I'm giving Goughlar too much credit for thinking about these things but it's something to consider.

Maybe deep in Clark's subconscious he feels like he has destroyed part of Lex and that carrying his secret is going to kill Chloe.

Thoughts? Have I gone off the deep end?

Sounds entirely too reasonable. *shivers*

I think you might have a point. Here's my thinking:

They have a plan for how the story will play out, and season 5 and 6 are what leads up to it. They've certain things to achieve.

However, those things aren't what goes well with the fans, I think the end product will - however getting there's crap.

Now fandom is a major part of the viewing base, so maybe part of it is to allow fandom back in to Smallville, after alienating them with the fans. Not to mention Michael needs a good send off, with people happy with his character to be able to justify an eighth season of Smallville, and keep the fans.

So maybe, Clark's dark thoughts is what's driving the problem - he's got to come to terms with his darkside if he's ever going to be Superman, and that means reconciling his fears with reality - his feelings for Lex.

You'll hate me for saying this - however back in the early days, what would have happened if Lex had just said "Want to come over and watch a movie?" rather than extreme gestures of friendship, and dealing with difficult times. Things could ahve been so different.

However I've just woke up - so will talk about it more later, and make sense of it. Night again.

Hehe!

Unfortunately having read some vague spoilers for how it will end I think Lana is going to be a major part of it :(

Why can't she just fuck off and let the show be about Clark and Lex like it should be

If that's true, I'll have some more respect for Clark. If he KNOWS that in part he helped maim Lex's soul through his behavior and feels responsible for what he does now.

I don't think the Lana working with Lionel is clutching at straws. It's a viable theory, and I really don't think that she could have done all of this on her own. No matter how "brilliant" the writers want us to think she is (suddenly).

Another theory that I've been working is that this isn't Lana, it's Brainiac jerking Clark and Lex around again. But I think that Lana would work with Lionel now. They could even be in bed together. (Try not to visualize that.)

I don't think Clark is consciously aware of how he views Lana, Lex and Chloe. Although I'm guessing he must have at least thought about it after the events of Labyrinth. I think I mentioned it in one of my fics, that the reason Clark is so snarky with Lex is that when he sees Lex he sees his own failings.

I don't think he's quite grasped the awareness of how he views Lana or Chloe yet but I'm hoping that in time that will come

Lana and Lionel in bed has been written. It was scary. LOL

I interpreted Labyrinth differently. I think the phantom was trying to break Clark down, to make him hopeless, so he manipulated Clark's mind to make him see a world that was his worst nightmare, full of everything he feared most: Chloe dead and Lex crippled because of him, Martha married to Lionel, and Stepford!Lana living in his loft. He doesn't prefer her, he's terrified of her. Subconsciously, Clark knows Lana is bad for him, but he can't yet convince his conscious mind to see the truth and let go of his adolescent fantasy about her. Fanwank, much? LOL!

I really, truly think Labyrinth was setting the stage for Chlark, but then something made the show reverse course, shift gears, and revisit the dreaded Clana yet again, resulting in a different ending for Labyrinth and the horrors that followed. Promise, anyone? Grrr!

I dunno. Clark seemed all too willing to give up the 'real world' so he could be with Stepford Lana. It was only at the very last minute that he changed his mind.

I really would love to see some Chlark. Even if it's only for a few episodes.

But I cling to the fact that he was only ready to do so after Lex had condemned him and Chloe was dead - he had nothing left, he was too devastated to fight, so he gave up. Earlier in the episode, he ran out on Lana to follow Chloe, clearly choosing her over Lana. Come on, drink the kool-aid, believe with me! LOL!
