You can't have fandom without canon, so there are aspects of all the shows and movies I've loved over the years that I think are fantastic.

I could talk about how Buffy/Spike hooked me on the enemies to lovers trope and that it's stuck with me for my entire fandom life.

I could talk about the fascinating idea of young adult Lex Luthor and fall into villainy in Smallville.

I could talk about Castiel giving up everything he's ever known for a man he came to love.

I could talk about a random SHIELD agent in Iron Man becoming so popular with fans that he was instrumental in bring the Avengers together and then got his own show even after his character had been killed off.

I could talk about Lan Wangji's grief, how he raised a child that wasn't his to keep some part of the man he loves close by, his unwavering refusal to leave Wei Wuxian's side after he got him back by some miracle.

I could talk about Shen Wei loving one man for 10,000 years and willing to risk everything to keep him safe.

But what I'm actually going to talk about is The Lost Tomb franchise because that's where I am right now.

Your main fandom of the year?
Probably The Untamed although Guardian comes a close second

Your favourite film watched this year?
I should keep better track of all the movies I watch but it was probably Freaky. That was a lot of fun.

Your favourite book read this year?
Well, I barely read any books so I guess it was Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation

Your favourite TV show of the year?
The Untamed. It really is a beautifully shot and acted show, and it opened up the gates to so many other wonderful c-dramas that I also watched

Your favourite online fandom community of the year?
My Untamed group chat on Twitter, which isn't really about The Untamed anymore it's a whole mesh of stuff. They kept me sane and made me laugh when nothing else did. Also honourary mention to the Guardian fandom who piled on with hugs and tissues when I was livetweeting the finale and have been wonderful ever since.

Favorite fanworks of the year?
Anything on my fic rec lists

Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
C-drama fandom in general I think. The Untamed is special, of course, but it's really big and often overwhelming. I've had a lovely time in the Guardian and Lost Tomb fandoms though. Everyone is so nice and friendly.

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
The usual nonsense. Ageism is still rife in fandom spaces, gatekeeping is still a huge problem, people still don't seem to realise that just because someone ships something you don't like that doesn't make them Problematic.

Your biggest squee moment of the year?
The villains in Love and Redemption finally getting brought to justice. I spent 50+ episodes yelling at those assholes and it was so satisfying when they finally got what they deserved.

The most missed of your old fandoms?
I miss hockey a lot, and even though they are coming back in a few days I think this is a catastrophically bad idea. Some teams have already has multiple players test positive for COVID in the space of one day. At least one that I know of is out longer term because of long covid. It's a mess and I hate that it's happening. I'm not going to be able to enjoy hockey until it's safe for everyone involved.

The fandom you haven’t tried yet, but want to?
I'm not actively looking for anything new. There's shows I want to try but whether I get sucked into the fandom or not remains to be seen.

Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
I'm looking forward to writing more. sundial_exchange is coming up (PANIC!) so it'll be nice to have lots of new Guardian and associated show fanworks to enjoy.
