Fandom news
May. 7th, 2012 01:28 amThis won't come as a shock to anyone who has interacted with me at all in the past week but I have found a new fandom playpen in the shape of the Avengers.
It's kind of a new fandom, but also kind of not. I dabbled in the Iron Man fandom when the first movie came out and that was actually before I got into the SPN fandom which is weird now that I think about it. And following on from that the guys at work got me reading the comics which is where I started shipping Steve and Tony. So really this is more like coming home.
As I mentioned in my post the other day I've been unhappy with SPN for a while but just sort of coasted along because I had nothing else. Now I do and I have fandom happiness that has been sorely missing from my life for quite a while. I'm excited and bouncy and full of squees.
I have a tendency to apologise when I find a new fandom. I know I did it a lot when I moved from Merlin into SPN. But you know what I can't apologise for being happy. I've been really fucking miserable for months now and this is just what I needed. I'm not saying I'm entirely abandoning SPN but at the same time I'm not promising to come back to it either. We'll see what happens. The joy about having something new come out is that you're never the only one to latch on. Have been happily squeeing with my SPN fandom friends and I know that those people who genuinely like me and not just the mutual love of Cas/Misha will stick around. Hell, I've still got friends around here that I met in various previous fandoms of mine and those are the ones that I truly cherish. Online friendships can go beyond a specific fandom.
So that's where I am at the moment. I don't post on LJ much any more but I do dip in when I'm not working and when I do post you can expect random Avengers flailing.
It's funny that prior to the Avengers coming out I was convinced once I'd seen it I'd be drowning in Steve/Tony shippiness and whilst it WAS awesome to see my comic OTP come to life on the big screen I have found myself unexpectedly pulled into Hawkeye/Coulson fics which I am adoring. It's funny because
jacqui_hw,
moonlettuce and
dametokillfor all started shipping it ages ago (when Thor came out) and I just didn't get it. Hell, I didn't even really get it when watching the Avengers. I mean I love Phil and have done since my first Iron Man viewing but I barely paid any attention to Hawkeye when he was in Thor and I kind of shipped him more with Black Widow the first time I watched the Avengers. But then I read a couple of fics and fell in love with the whole fanon of Phil training Clint and them slowly coming to love and respect each other and just GUH.
And as a result of that I have become more than a little fixated with Jeremy Renner who plays Hawkeye. He's just...I don't even know but I keep taking 'Renner breaks' on Tumblr so I can go and look at pics and gifs of him. LOOK AT HIS ARMS ON MY NEW LJ HEADER.
So, yeah, expect much Coulson/Hawkeye gushing and Steve/Tony of course. And random flailing about Clark Gregg and Jeremy Renner.
And sorry for those who were just here for the SPN stuff. I don't think I'll be posting about it much (although I will be reading any bigbang fics that catch my eye).
Feel free to defriend at will. No hard feelings.
