I was just thinking it's been a quiet week for fic this week so I went to check my fic recs file to see what I'd listed to rec on Monday. It's empty :(

This is the first time I haven't had anything to rec since I started my Monday recs way back when last years spn_j2_bigbang started posting :(

Maybe something will come up tomorrow. I'm hoping the deancastiel fic exchange is going to start posting soon

OMFG (#2)

So, qthelights told me I had to watch Misha on ER and handily found this video for me.

Here is the extent of my geekery though. Misha is standing with no shirt on and displaying biteable hipbones and all I am thinking is how awesome it is that he's talking about Robert Johnson. I AM SUCH A FUCKING LOSER!

And then he starts talking about the devil while seducing a girl and I am laughing my ass off thinking about Marksha and his socks. Dear God I need help. This is what the SPN fandom does to you, people!

And, weirdly, the few seconds of him speaking Russian turned me on way more than this whole thing

So, wincon is looking more and more like it's going to happen. I'm quite excited, and do you want to know the reason why? It's because Jared, Jensen, Misha, Tom and Michael went to Chicago in my rpf_big_bang fic last year and I'm excited to see some of the places I wrote about. I am such a loser. LOL! I want to go to Navy Pier where Jared first expressed his feelings to Jensen and The Bean where Misha took stupid pictures of his reflection to post on Twitter and Willis Tower where Jensen got vertigo and was sick while Jared had fun on the glass balcony. I AM SUCH A GEEK!

So, I'm wondering if I can talk any of my flisties into sharing a room at wincon with me...

In other news I still have loads of TV to catch up on but the muses are poking me to write so I should probably do that while I have the inclination. I did finally watch the Being Human finale last night and it was good. James Marsters made his first appearance in Caprica and that was also good. Still got 2 episodes of Chuck, 2 episodes of White Collar, 1 episode of Lost and 1 episode of Caprica to get through. Ah well, they're not going anywhere.

Oh dear

So, I have a new iPhone game which is quite addictive in that annoying way in that it's not a game you can complete. The aim is just to get as high a score as possible.

It's called Doodle Jump.

What I love about the iPhone games is that they're so simple they remind me of old games I used to play back in the Commodore 64 and Amiga days. Next I'll be looking for a copy of Lemmings ;)

As much as I love the new games with the amazing graphics and epic plots sometimes it's fun to just play a really basic game where all you have to do is bounce on blocks and not fall off

Fandom meta

There seems to be a lot of meta about Dean and Castiel's relationship on my flist today, which is cool, I like reading what people think about things.

However, I have something else I want to discuss for reasons which will become apparent later.

BNFs (that's Big Name Fans if you were wondering). What do people think about them? I've always been really curious about the whole BNF thing, and how they come into being. Personally speaking I find it more than a little strange that some fans are acredited more worth than others in a fandom. I don't really blame the people in question and I don't think I've ever really had a bad experience with a BNF before but I do find the whole thing curious.

Like a BNF will do a post that says something like 'I had this really yummy chicken soup for lunch' and get 50 replies from people talking about their own experiences with chicken soup. Is it just because people are desperate to be part of a group and replying to a BNF post gives them some sort of status? I don't know.

What makes a BNF in your opinion? Is it because they write particularly good fic, or really intelligent and thought provoking meta? Is it just whoever happens to be the one to launch a new ship in a fandom?

I'd love to know what you think, and what your experiences with BNFs are. Ever met a BNF where the 'fame' got to their heads? Or have they all been pretty down to earth and nice in your experience?
