I remembered the two things I wanted to post about but forgot
1. I know it's been a while since I actually made any icons but I would like to do some soon. The thing is I'm not really sure whether to carry on with my Smallville icons or not. People don't seem to be really interested in icons from the older episodes any more and I don't think I'd use any for myself if I made them. I dunno. I remember the days when I was sure I'd do all the episodes and I haven't quite made it to the end of S3. Mind, S4 has Jensen and Lois which might be an incentive to carry on

sinnerforhire asked me if I'd considered getting a delicious account for all my fic recs. It was only then that I remembered that I do actually have one. I set it up last week while my laptop was being operated on and I was bored. I haven't quite figured out how to work it yet though.
Right, I need to eat something so I can take more ibuprofen

An observation
May. 27th, 2009 12:42 pmI find it really interesting the way SPN fans write Michael compared to the way SV fans write him
SPN fans always call him Mike (I think I read one fic where this was the exception) even though he has said in at least one interview that he doesn't like it. Admittedly I was guilty of this in my first SV RPS fic but still.
The other thing is that SPN fans tend to make him crazy. I mean he is, but in the SPN fics he's always the far side of crazy. Like the one where he got married to Tom in a wedding dress that I recced yesterday, and made Jensen wear a bridesmaid's dress. Sometimes it works and is funny, other times it doesn't.
It's like he's almost become a stereotype, and I think this is the problem with RPS as a whole (and something I'm going to mention in my canon vs fanon talk). A lot of the characters are sterotyped to extreme.
Obviously all the characters have to be recognisable as themselves but there's characterisation and then there's exaggerated stereotype.
The problem I have now is that I've been reading so much SPN RPS that when it comes to write my bigbang I need to make sure that the Michael I write is my Michael, not the version I've been reading about for the past few weeks. I've written him before so I know I can do it. I just need to get into the zone.
I think I need to watch some Jared and Jensen interviews too so that I write them the way I see them rather than the way other people have written them

May. 27th, 2009 07:13 pmI didn't mean my last post to be offensive to anyone in case it wasn't clear. I just find it interesting to see that 'characters' in RPS are portrayed differently depending on the fandom. I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong
I have spent most of today reading because I didn't feel up to doing much else so I have some more recs. I've moved away from the AU stuff to the non-AU stuff. Seriously, what do you call it? It's not canon because the boys are not actually fucking in real life (so far as we know)

Now, since my eyes can't take any more reading and I'm waiting for Jacqui so we can resume S1 of SPN I think I'll have a fiddle with delicious and see if I can get some of my recs on there. I'll link you if I have any success
