To swim or not to swim

I'm debating going swimming today as I am going to miss both my aerobics classes this week. However, I am struggling to motivate myself.

I have to be at the pool in an hour and I'm still pootling around in my PJs. Plus it'll mean driving on my own. LOL!

Well, I shall see what happens I guess.

Hmm...

After all the talk about Twilight and while I was just updating my visual bookshelf on Facebook I kind of want to read the Anita Blake series again. Not all of them, mind. To me there's a clear point where the books went from being interesting stories to just porn. Not that there's anything wrong with porn of course, I just like a decent plot as well as porn if I'm reading a novel. LOL

The last book in the series I remember not being annoyed with was Obsidian Butterfly so maybe I'll just read up to there

Not now though. Lots of unread books to get through first.

Incidentally Finding Serenity is a brilliant book. There's some really fascinating essays in there and some funny ones too. Last night I got to thinking about homosexuality in the Jossverse and I think I shall have to make a post later when I've got my thoughts on the subject sorted.

At least I'm taking the dogs out for a walk later so I'm not spending the whole day sitting around

Just having some thinky thoughts

So, I was reading an essay about Inara last night and mention was made of the one time she takes a female client during Firefly. I started thinking about gay characters in the Jossverse.

Willow and Tara (correct me if I'm wrong) have been praised as being one of the most believeable gay couples on TV and of course Joss is praised with his feminist empowerment of female characters.

I started to think. So far we have had lesbian scenes with Willow and Tara, Willow and Kennedy, Inara and her client, and ( comic spoiler )

Where are the male gay scenes?

It's struck me that there are few male gay characters in the Jossverse. Larry of course was there, but he was very much a background character and died at the end of Season 3. I think most people are now of the opinion that Andrew is gay but I don't recall it ever being stated in canon.

Andrew is very much a source of ridicule in the 'verse. He's comic relief. There is the obvious implied things between Spike and Angel, and Spike and Xander to a lesser extent, but I'm talking about actual relationships here. I could add Buffy/Faith and others to the list above if we're just talking about implied stuff.

I don't know about anyone else (and this isn't just because I'm a slasher) but I would love to see a believeable and true male gay relationship in Joss's universe.

And the moment it seems to me that he is just fulfilling every males obsession with lesbians.

Thoughts? Comments? I'm waiting for someone to point out a character or relationship that I've forgotten. LOL!

Depends who else is up for nomination. I don't think he should win one just because he's dead, he should win it if he was the best actor out of all the other nominees. It was certainly a good performance but these things are relative.

Heading off soon

I have to be up at 8am to follow dad to the garage and drive him home after he's dropped off his car. Finally we see the downside of being able to drive. LOL! 8am?! I'm on holiday! On the plus side it means I will definitely be up in time for swimming, unless I go for a 'nap' when I get home. LOL!

I played some Sims tonight and I'm still waiting for Lana and Oliver to get old so I can see what happens. 24 sim days left. Their daughter will be an adult in 3 days.

I really have the attention span of a gnat when it comes to LJ layouts. I have a lovely cap of Lex that I took from Perry that I think would look lovely in either black and white or sepia. I might have a play tomorrow, even though wet!Clark has only been up a few weeks.

Well, since I have to be up early tomorrow I'd best go to bed
