hils: (Driving Lex by me)
I'm home! YAY! That is probably the second worst hotel I've ever stayed in...well, maybe the third. It wasn't great at any rate and it's not often that I get homesick when I'm away but I did this time *cuddles stuff*

It's been a difficult couple of days. Dave was driving and he only passed his test 6 months ago and this is the longest trip he's ever done. He gets quite stressed when he's driving and he wanted me to navigate. It's difficult for me to tell him which lane to get into when I can't drive and don't understand some of the road signs (must start studying for my theory test) so there was a bit of sniping but not a huge amount. We did get lost but that was mostly down to the crap directions AA routefinder gave us. I think our company should buy a satnav for the car *nods*

We got back into York at 3pm and at 3:30 I had my driving lesson. I barely had time to sit down! It was good though. My instructor let me drive from the very beginning and I drove myself home afterwards too. Not bad after 3 lessons if I do say so myself. Of course I'm still making lots of little mistakes but my instructor seems mostly pleased with how I'm doing. Today I learned how to do an emergency stop (fun, but a little scary) and how to reverse (HARD!) as well as just driving around and going over the stuff I learned last week. The important thing is I'm still enjoying it and I've got the confidence to do stuff like drive home when given the choice.

Oh, and I've tweaked my layout a bit after the suggestions you guys made. How's it looking?

Inspiration hit last night and I know what I'm going to do with my Siren snippet...mostly.

My woobies have arrived! Well, sort of. I have to go and collect them from the depot because there's a customs fee to pay *grumbles* I'll have to get them on Thursday as I have aerobics straight after work tomorrow

Now I've got a couple of days of LJ posts to catch up on.

On books

I've been thinking about the conversation I had with [livejournal.com profile] woman_of_ on Sunday about books that had an impact on me when I was a teenager. Do you ever go back and read books that you loved or that influenced you only to find that as you've got older they don't fit into your life the way they once did? I don't often read a book more than once because there's so much new stuff out there for me to enjoy, but I've been thinking of going back to some of the books we discussed and now I'm worried I'm somehow going to ruin my teenage memories. What if these books aren't what I remember?

Am I being silly? Should I read the books again or leave them in the past?

*sighs*

Clearly I am watching too much Frasier and it's making me over-analyse everything. LOL. Quick, someone find somethig shallow and meaningless for me to think about ;)

Sorry, I forgot something.

I'm planning on re-reading Hamlet before I see David perform it in September and it's been ages since I studied Shakespeare. It's not a play I'm hugely familiar with (I saw the Kenneth Bragnah film and read it once) so I've love to have people to talk about it with me.

I'm thinking of setting up a book filter, to discuss the play at first and then whatever else I'm reading after that. All posts will be behind a cut so if I'm talking about a book you plan to read later you won't be spoiled

Anyone interested?
