Hilsy's Weekend of Fun
Nov. 17th, 2003 08:02 amLondon both amazes and scares me at the same time. It's full of interesting places and people but it's just so big I feel overwhelmed. I could certainly never live there. The tube is my idea of hell on earth for a start.
Still, I had a great weekend.
Friday: Arrived in London in the early evening. Had an amazing farce meeting my friend at Victoria Station. We were on our phones both claiming to be outside Burger King. Took us fice minutes to realise there were two. LOL.
Got back to hers and we really only had time to dump my stuff before it was time to head out again. Met Derek and Matthew outside the theatre and we headed in to see Phantom of the Opera. Despite the fact we didn't have the best seats in the house the production was excellent. Had me in tears at one point which is something no other show or play has done for me. The sets were amazing too.
After Phantom had finished we headed to a New Orleans style restaurant and had dinner. Mmm....fajitas and cocktails.
Home and bed after that
Saturday: Slept in which was nice and then headed down to the London Eye. Matthew and Derek were late so we hung around, took some photos and watched the street performers. Once our group was complete we booked our tickets for the Eye and headed off to do some shopping. Called in at a nice Italian for lunch and had a lovely mushroom risotto.
Bought myself a nice snuggly purple winter hat to keep my head and ears warm on the long walks to and from work. Headed back to go on the Eye.
It was dark by the time we got on and when we reached the top we had an AMAZING view of what looked like pretty much all of London lit up and sparkling. It was great.
Went to the pub after that and had a lovely pint of guiness. We then discovered my idea of heaven on earth. Haagen-Daas cafes. Why doesn't the rest of the country have these. It was glorious. Any kind of ice cream you wanted in any form you wanted. Perfect. Ate WAY too much and then rolled home
Sunday: Went to the Tate Modern. I'm not usually overly impressed with modern art but the display in the main room was staggering. It was an enourmous circle, lit up at the back and set up to look like the sun. The ceiling was mirrored and you could lie down on the floor and stare up at your reflection. I'm not sure words can do it justice. Took lots of pics so hopefully they'll come out.
Time to go home after that.
Dave met me at the station and we spent a few hours getting annoyed with Broken Sword 3 before calling it a night.
End of weekend
