I suppose this is going to keep happening because that's the world we live in now. My housemate tested positive last Friday, a couple of days after getting back from vacation. I was pretty worried because even in the before times if she got a run of the mill cold she'd have an awful cough for weeks. Thankfully she said she's feeling a lot better today although she's still testing positive.

Miraculously I seem to have avoided it.

I do wonder if that virus I had a couple of weeks ago was actually covid but didn’t show up on a test. The fact that the symptoms hit right after spending an evening with someone who tested positive the next day seems a bit sus.

Ros said when her husband had it he didn’t test positive until 7 days after the start of his symptoms. My symptoms were pretty much gone after 7 days so I’d stopped testing by that point. All I had was some lingering fatigue.

Unfortunately, it meant I had to miss the nephew's birthday party last weekend. Ros's dad is seriously ill in hospital, and her mum has late-stage dementia and needs full time care so Ros didn't want to risk me spreading it. Totally understandable, but I was very sad to miss it.

Saw the nephew today though and gave him his birthday presents which he was very happy about and managed to have a bit of leftover birthday cake. So, not all bad. He's a good kid. We went shopping after dinner and he asked if he could pack everything for me after I'd paid. He did a better job than I would have! Everything was neatly arranged and organised.

It's a relief that you seem to have avoided it! And awww, nephew is so sweet packing for you.

I think you did the right thing not going just in case. C19 is going to be around for a long time, and I think it’ll just keep getting milder and we’ll end up shaking it off quicker. It’s definitely not going to disappear.

When I had it back in December I didn't test positive until 5 days in, by which time I was feeling better and assumed it was just a nasty migraine two days running and tiredness. I only tested again because I was going to an event so thought I'd better check just in case - just as well since several of the people there would have been somewhat elderly.

I'm still pretty suspicious when there is someone sniffling or coughing on the Tube - unlikely that they have bothered to test themselves these days.

Who knows? Summer colds are also really common right now. Either way I am glad that you felt better within a week. My mother had a scare last week that seems to have been caused by "gardening on a windy day" for hours.
