1. Hawkeye - Started this last year but finished it last week because I was watching it with Jacqui so we left the last episode until we were both back from the holidays. It was fun. A nice mesh of the Fraction comics and the MCU version of Clint. Kate was awesome.
2. The Witcher Season 2 - Despite the fact I could barely remember anything that happened in season 1 I still very much enjoyed this. Jaskier continues to be a delight. Henry Cavill's arms, also delightful.
3. Tale of the Nine-Tailed - I loved this! Full of Korean mythology and folklore, an excellent female lead, and a side character I got very attached to. I didn't think I was overly emotionally invested and then I bawled through the finale. So good.
4. Kieta Hatsukoi (My Love Mix-Up) - This was adorable. It was very silly, and a lot of the drama could have been avoided if the characters had just talked to each other, but I haven't watched a bl drama in ages and overall it was very sweet.
5. You Make Me Dance - Short but very sweet. I really enjoyed it.
6. Wandavision - I have kind of fallen out with Marvel over recent years so aside from Hawkeye I haven't felt any real urge to watch any of the live action shows. My housemate suggested we watch this, though, and even thought she'd already seen it she watched it with it. It was good! I enjoyed it. I do love Paul Bettany and it was nice to see his actual face for a few episodes rather than the prosthetics.
7. Street Dance of China Season 4 - This actually finished last year and we've been waited ages for the final episode to be subbed but apparently they just aren't doing that. They partially subbed 2/3 of the finale (just the captains' comments) and didn't bother with the final 1/3 at all. So, we muddled through and tried our best to figure out what was happening. It's fun, I do enjoy watching all the dancing and you do end up getting attached to some of the contestants.
8. Falcon and the Winter Solider - I absolutely loved this! It's my favourite of all the live action MCU shows that we've watched so far. It had a bunch of great characters, great characters, interesting plots. Loved it. They managed to cram a lot into 6 episodes and it was excellent!
9. My Roommate is a Detective - I enjoyed this. It took me a little while to warm up to the characters and the ending wasn't quite what I wanted but overall a good and fun show
10. Color Rush - This was a really interesting idea (some people can only see in black and white until they meet their 'probe' which is a person that lets them see colour). They really needed a lot more time than 8 15 minute episode. They skimmed over a lot of the world building and left a few plothole. I did enjoy it, I just wanted a lot more of it.
11. Beyond Evil - Absolutely brilliant! I spent the first few episodes being Very Confused but once things start clicking into place it's absolutely fantastic. A strong early contender for the best thing I've watched this year
12. Loki - Loki has never been my favourite MCU character, and I don't particularly like Owen Wilson either so I wasn't expecting to enjoy this. It was actually pretty decent. It was an interesting story, and the two leads were great. Owen Wilson actually wasn't bad either. I definitely enjoyed it enough to want to watch the next season of it.
13. Winter Begonia - Absolutely stunning. I could not get enough of this drama. I watched all 50 episodes in less than a month which is a lot for me. One of the best c-dramas I've seen. It gave me so many feelings.
14. Kei x Yaku: Abunai Aibou - If the fact that I wrote 2 fics for this show before I was even halfway through watching it didn't give anything away I absolutely loved this. I will say the actual 'plot' wasn't as engaging as all the character stuff was. There was a few times were I lost track of what was happening with regards to the case they were investigating but it didn't overly matter. The two leads are fantastic and have amazing chemistry. Really hope they decide to make a second season
15. Semantic Error - I wasn't sure I was going to like this after the first couple of episodes. It's a classic college enemies to lovers story, but the enemies part involves a lot of pranking and harassment which made me uncomfortable. Fortunately they get over that quickly and start moving towards lovers and the rest of it was really sweet.
16. Our Flag Means Death - SO GOOD! So painful, so funny, so heartwarming. I laughed, I cried, I loved it
17. A Man Who Defies the World of BL - This was a lot of fun. It's very meta, pokes fun at a lot of the BL (and by extension fic) tropes but in a fond sort of way. It was very sweet and I enjoyed it a lot
18. Bad Buddy - This was adorable. I was expecting just a nonsense college romance show and it is that but it's got a lot of heart and the two leads have great chemistry. I ended up crying a surprising amount while I was watching it.
19. Not Me - This was so good! Definitely the best of all the Thai dramas I've watched, and probably the best BL I've seen too. This felt raw and real. It was beautifully shot, beautifully acted, the soundtrack was great. I absolutely loved it. If you're going to watch any Asian BL I recommend this one.
20. Vincenzo - I've been watching this very slowly as part of a weekly group watch. Because the episodes are so long we've only been watching an episode per week so it's taken ages to finish it. It was really good though. Excellent cast, excellent story, really well directed.
21. A Tale of Thousand Stars - Like Bad Buddy I thought this was just going to be a cute romance, only to find myself incredibly emotionally invested and crying a lot. I loved it, it was very sweet.
22. I Told Sunset About You - Well made and well acted but a bit too angsty for my liking. The main couple, in my opinion, did not have a healthy relationship and while I liked how it examined a teenage boy coming to terms with his sexuality I didn't celebrate when they got together in the end. So much of this was them either deliberately or accidentally hurting each others feelings and I just wasn't into it.
23. Her Royal Highness - This barely counts as a TV show given the whole thing is less than an hour long. For some reason it was released as 27 3 minute episodes. So, because of that the pacing is quite jarring until you get used to it. Apart from that though it was great! Everyone is really pretty, there's some interesting gender dynamics, and a few twists which are impressive given how short it is. Would rec.
24. Heartstopper - It's funny I read the first couple of volumes of the comic this is adapted from years ago and I didn't even know they were making a live action version until last week. It's a fantastic adaptation. It's sweet and lovely and I cried so much while I was watching it. It's full of diverse and interesting characters, and there's so much queer romance. It's utterly delightful.
25. Love By Chance - This is without a doubt my least favourite of all the Thai dramas I've watched. The main couple were cute enough once they got over their communication issues but every single side pairing comes with a bucketload of content warnings. It was super uncomfortable to watch and I did not enjoy it at all.
26. Moon Knight - This is my least favourite of all the Marvel live action shows. Which is weird, because Oscar Isaac. I don't know it just didn't click with me at all. Maybe because I didn't know the character at all prior to watching and they had to cram a lot into 6 episodes.
27. Healer - Really enjoyed this! It wasn't as emotionally engaging as some of the other dramas I've watched but it was a lot of fun and I really liked all the characters.
28. Oh! Boarding House - I started this last week as part of a group watch but because I'm heading to a Eurovision party shortly I had to finish it on my own as the others are going to watch it after I'll have left. It was cute! It's only a short drama like a lot of the Korean BLs are but it was sweet, and a little sad, but it all worked out in the end. I enjoyed it.
29. Under the Skin - Really enjoyed this! Haven't watched a c-drama in a while and this was a good one. The two leads were great and the supporting characters were fun too. It managed to make some of the nonsense about how they solved crime sound credible, and I learned a lot about art along the way.
30. Theory of Love - I pretty much only watched this because the two leads from Not Me star in it, but it was worth it. I'm glad I watched this one second though because I think it would have ruined Not Me for me if I'd watched it first. It was fine, lots of idiot boys in love. I really liked that one of the side romances didn't go the way I expected it to
31. Cherry Blossoms After Winter - I really enjoyed this one too. As much as I like to suspend my disbelief when it comes to queer dramas it was actually nice to see the parent figure worrying about homophobic backlash against the couple (there isn't any but it's nice to see it addressed). Overall it was very cute
32. Blueming - I really enjoyed this one! On the surface it's the typical college BL romance, but it's beautifully shot and the soundtrack is lovely. It's a little more mature than most of the college dramas. It felt more like watching an arthouse short film, which was probably a deliberate choice given that it's about film students.
33. Tinted With You - Of all the short BL dramas I've watched over the past few days I think I liked this one the most. It's just a really nice bit of historical fix-it where a prince who was originally murdered by his brother finds a nice boyfriend from the future and they make art together. There's some lovely OT3 vibes with the prince's bodyguard too. It's just a nice story and the whole thing is only just over an hour long.
34. Tientsin Mystic - This was fun! The cast were great and they had great chemistry with each other. I liked that it had a lot of supernatural elements which you don't get much in more recent c-dramas. This didn't really have an ending but there is a second season which I will watch at some point
35. Be Loved In House: I Do - I really enjoyed this. I think it's my favourite of all the Taiwanese BL dramas I've watched. There is minimal angst beyond idiot boys failing to communicate and it was just gentle and soft. I liked it a lot.
36. My Country: the New Age - People have been telling me to watch this for months, but also telling me that it's not exactly a happy drama, so I've been avoiding it. It IS incredibly well done. The sets, acting and story are all fantastic. But, given that it's based on actual historical events, it does not end happily for everyone concerned. Glad I watched it, would rate it 10/10, but I now need to go and cry for several days.
37. Old Fashion Cupcake - This was adorable. Just a lovely sweet romance. I enjoyed the fact that the leads were a bit older than most of the BL dramas I've watched. Nice to see a man in his 40s figuring out his sexuality and finding love.
38. Tientsin Mystic 2 - I wish I'd realised sooner how much I wasn't enjoying this because I would have dropped it. As it was I got to 10 episodes from the end and decided it was too late to quit and pushed through. Parts of it were okay, but the plot was largely incoherent and I felt like it lost the charm that the first season had.
39. 3 Will Be Free - I absolutely loved this! I'd say it's tied with Not Me for my favourite Thai drama. This had everything I could want. A love triangle that's an actual triangle (ie they all love each other), a positive trans character with her own agenda and storyline, drama, romance. It was wonderful.
40. Plus & Minus - This was okay. I really loved it up to a point and then it went beyond the point where I felt it had naturally ended and dumped a load of additional angsty storylines that really didn't add anything to the plot. So I liked the first 8 or so episodes and then I lost interest after that. The side couple were also way more interesting than the main one
41. Original Sin - I've been group watching this with some Discord friends for the past couple of months. Overall I liked it, although the cases being investigated were a bit hit and miss. It definitely threw some curveballs towards the end which I felt elevated it from a basic cop show into something more interesting.
42. KinnPorsche - Jacqui and I have been waiting about a year to watch this. Ever since the first trailer dropped. Finally it arrived and we watched it together. It was okay. I think it took me a while to adjust to the fact that it was not what I was expecting. The drama made it look like this cool and dark mafia drama whereas in fact it was more like a comedy/family drama/romance which just happened to be about a mafia family. It leaned a little too much into the comedy for the first few episodes and then settled down into a quite tropey family drama. I did enjoy it. It just wasn't what I expected.
43. Mr Unlucky Has No Choice But To Kiss - This was a really cute drama. There was a random unexpectedly dramatic moment that got resolved fairly quickly but felt massively out of place. Overall though Emma and I both enjoyed this
44. Ms Marvel - I really loved this! It might be my favourite of the Marvel live action shows.
45. Mad Dog - I really enjoyed this! It was clearly heavily inspired by Leverage (although there is also an official Korean version of Leverage) but once it had established the characters it ended up doing its own thing and I liked it a lot. The characters all had great chemistry, the bad guys were sufficiently interesting. It was good.
46. Secret Crush on You - This was incredibly silly and, honestly, if I wasn't watching it as part of a group watch I probably would have ditched it after the first couple of episodes. It was pretty cringe, but laughing about the nonsense with friends was fun
47. Heroes - Not to be confused with the American TV show Heroes, this is a Chinese martial arts drama and it was bloody brilliant. I'll admit I only started watching it because I knew the three leads from various tomb dramas but it ended up being fantastic. Almost Shakespearean levels of tragic but I loved it even if I did bawl my eyes out at the end.
48. Triage - This was quite silly for the first 80% and then got quite emotional and tense towards the end. Overall I enjoyed it. Not the best Thai drama I've watched but not the worst either.
49. Light On Me - I've been watching this with my friend Emma over the past few weeks. It's quite silly, there are numerous plot holes and the whole thing would have been far better if it had been resolved with an OT3 instead of pairing one of the love triangle off with his stalker at the end. But it passed the time and the main romance was quite sweet.
50. Bromance - This was genuinely surprising. I was expecting a comedy about a girl who has spent her whole life disguised as a boy for Plot Reasons to have a lot of cheap jokes but it was surprisingly thoughtful and heartfelt about both gender and sexuality (because of course she meets and falls in love with a man while disguised as a boy and he loves her back and has to come to terms with his sexuality). I enjoyed it a lot. It's incredibly trope laden but it often doesn't do what you would expect with those tropes. I liked it.
51. Duel - I do love a story about clones and this was a good one. Excellent work by the lead actor. Half the time I forgot he was playing two different characters.
52. Senpai, This Can't Be Love - This was cute until a couple of episode from the end when it introduced some unnecessary drama and didn't resolve all of the established plot point. Overall I enjoyed it I was just a bit disappointed by the end and Emma who was watching it with me felt the same way.
53. Immortal Samsara - I generally have a rule that I won't watch a drama until it's finished airing so I can try and glean whether the ending is satisfying and the drama is worth my time. I didn't do that with this one. I saw the trailer of Cheng Yi in robes getting whumped and started watching it as soon as the first episode aired. I wouldn't say I regretted it entirely, but this drama was a reminder of why I have that rule. It was fine, but the last few episodes were a bit of a let down compared to the rest of it which I did enjoy.
54. Love Like the Galaxy - Absolutely adored this. I'd say it's in my top 5 dramas that I've watched this year. It had a slew of amazing women, it had drama, scheming, romance and murder. It reminded me a bit of Pride and Prejudice which is no bad thing.
55. 2gether - It's interesting that a lot of people told me not to watch it because it wasn't good or interesting but I actually quite enjoyed it. It wasn't anything groundbreaking but it was very sweet and it was nice to see a lot of familiar faces from other Thai dramas that I've watched
56. My Esports Genius Brother - This one wasn't even on my radar but a friend who works in academia is looking to write something about esports dramas and since this one is only an hour long I said I'd watch it to see how prevelent the esports is (not very). It was fine, I guess. It was 12 episodes and each episode is only 5 minutes long so I watched the whole thing in an hour. Because of the episode length and the fact that it was about a gay couple in China the editing was a bit of a mess to get around both the episode length and the censorship rules. I think they could have done a lot more with it if the episodes had been a bit longer because the whole thing felt very rushed.
57. She-Hulk - This wasn't my favourite of the MCU live action shows but I still thought it was a lot of fun. You could tell they cut corners with the CGI budget but they played well with the fourth wall breaking which happens a lot in the comics. The last episode had me and my housemate laughing a lot.
58. Bad Guys - This was a lot of fun! I really enjoyed the characters and their dynamic as a team, really enjoyed the concept and it was massively predictable. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
59. Are You Safe - This was okay. It was a bit heavy handed with the cybersecurity PSAs and the plot didn't make a huge amount of sense but I liked the found family feels
60. DNA Says I Love You - Another one that was okay. We thought we knew what the plot twist was going to be but we were only sort of right. It could have been a really interesting drama if they'd explained it properly but it just ended up feeling a bit disappointing. The two leads were sweet though.
61. Love in the Air - I really enjoyed this up to a point. The final episode took a pretty dark turn and I don't feel like they spent enough time dealing with the aftermath of it. The rest of it was very sweet though.
62. Staged - I missed this when it originally aired so I had a catchup this week so I was ready for the new series which I have also watched. Really enjoyed it. A fun idea that I'm sure they will show kids in schools eventually to give them some ideas of what lockdown was like. It's weird that so much of the first series in particular feels so alien now even though it was only a couple of years ago.
63. Flower of Evil - This one was quite silly and a bit over the top but overall it was enjoyable. It was nice to see a drama about a family man rather than about a man finding love.
So good.
