Greetings from Scotland
Jun. 18th, 2021 01:47 pmGetting towards the end of my week in Scotland and omg I needed this so badly. It's been a nice mix of chilled out days at home and venturing out to be in nature.

It was absolutely boiling the day I arrived so I headed out with my dad to walk the dogs. This is literally 5 minutes down the road from where they live. Much nature to be enjoyed.

A bit overcast the second day of my visit but still really warm so we headed to the beach because I haven't seen the sea in 18 months.

Because I missed actual Christmas my parents surprised me with June Christmas. We had Christmas dinner, mum got the Christmas tablecloth out and my parents had bought and wrapped some board games so there was presents to open too. It was really nice!

My aunt's partner has been renovating an abandoned church in the village ever since he moved here. It's been a while since I've had the chance to visit and he's made a lot of progress. Last time I was here there was no upstairs area and the downstairs was mostly empty

After visiting the beach and crossing a river I joked I wanted to see a waterfall next so I could check all natural bodies of water off my list. Joke was on me because there was actually one not too far away

It's been a long-running joke that whenever we drive past the goat park there's never any goats to be seen. I was starting to doubt their existence but lo and behold there were goats this time!

We also saw deer

Much brighter day on our second trip to a different beach
I'm slowly weaning myself back into doing 'normal' things. Parents took me to a cafe which is the first time I've eaten out since last March. Was a bit nervous but it was totally fine. They got everyone to sanitise their hands before they showed us to a table, and they got us to fill in our contact details for track and trace.
We went to another cafe yesterday but it was a nice day so we sat outside for that. Also fine.
And that's about it really. When I told my parents this was my first full week off in over a year they've been really good about letting me lie in and not cramming tons into our days so I can have a rest as well.
Picnic tomorrow and then I'm heading home after lunch on Sunday.
I told myself I was going to take this week off from writing but I am kind of missing it. I made the mistake of starting a new fic the day before I left to come up here and I'm itching to work on it some more. I don't think I'll have time before I head home though but I'll get back into my regular routine on Monday.
I've also finally finished the Heaven Official's Blessing novel. It took me six months of reading it every day and it was a struggle in the middle but the last couple of books were excellent so I ended up really enjoying it. Since then I've finished two other books that I was halfway through and I've started the first Lost Tomb novel. It's such an easy read compared to Heaven Official's Blessing but I suppose it helps that I'm familiar with the story and the characters.

Date: 2021-06-20 12:55 pm (UTC)I adore the idea of a Christmas dinner in June! \o/ I'm glad you had fun playing boardgames, too. (I cannot for the life of me recognize the food on that plate, though. What is it? O_O)
Good to hear that your parents gave you time to relax on your week off, too.
