The one downside of working from home is I can't take a proper break. Part of our job is to issue secure fobs to people which allows them to log on remotely. As I'm sure you can imagine there's been a surge in requests for these since lockdown started.
When we were office based we kept the stock in the cupboard where anyone could issue one and put it in the mail slot for the post room to mail out. Obviously we can't do that now and since I live literally on the same street as a post office issuing these fobs has become part of my job.
Since people can't work remotely without these we can't just stop issuing them while I'm off, so I offered to log in for a couple of hours during my week off to issue and post any outstanding ones. There were 45 requests waiting for me and it took me 6 hours to process them all. I even made a start last night so I wouldn't lose too much of my day off today and it still took me from 10:30am to 2:30pm to get done.
I've been told I can take the time back, and I did offer to do this, I just wasn't expecting it to take so much time and by the end of it all I was feeling stressed and agitated.
Then, to top things off, I went grocery shopping after I'd been to the post office and the woman who served me was super rude. First of all she made eye contact and then carried on with what she was doing, then after about five minutes she sighed and said 'right!' as though my mere presence was a massive inconvenience. Normally I'd have just brushed it off but I was already feeling wound up and agitated and that just made it worse.
But I'm done now, and I can relax until Monday. One of my group chats on Twitter has done a wonderful job of making me laugh since I got home and I'm starting to unwind now.
Since lockdown we've started having a work team movie night on a Thursday using Netflix Party so we can chat while we're watching. There's 4 of us and each week a different person chooses the movie. So far we've watched
The Man From UNCLE
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Sherlock Holmes
BASEketball
Goon
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
Rush
Mallrats
Blades of Glory
Midnight Run
Hot Fuzz
Tonight's choice is Bad Boys which I have never seen, and I'm not really in the mood but it's important to stay social so I shall go along. I'm sure I'll enjoy it once we start.
But, in the meantime, I'm going to squeeze in an episode or two of SCI. I've only got 5 more to watch and I'm going to be sad when it's over.
