Date: 2015-08-23 11:20 am (UTC)For some reason we call Cream Teas, Devonshire Teas out here (In Aus).
We also call courgettes zucchini and aubergines eggplants.
God I miss crumpets. There are box mixes for gluten free crumpets but they are messy and you have to cook them yourself. I did see a packet of gf crumpets for sale once but they were $7 for 4.
I thought those were braces and suspenders were the things on your legs to hold up tights in England.
What ever they are called I'm all for them if he's wearing them. I do like them anyway but I can't wear them myself my boobs get in the way.
I have never heard of a trifle without jelly sponge and custard (and often cream). I know Ruth's family used to make it without booze as they are Mormon but I figured Jelly was kind of a big part of what made it trifle.

Date: 2015-08-23 11:36 am (UTC)I haven't had crumpets for aaaaaages. Kind of want some now.
You are totally right! I've been in American fandoms for too long. My brain just went immediately to braces for suspenders. Uh, I have no opinion on actual suspenders. Do people still even wear stockings anymore?
I don't put booze in my trifle either. Not for any religious reasons I just prefer the taste of it without

Date: 2015-08-23 03:39 pm (UTC)The trifle question is interesting - it seem to split into two almost equal groups - those of us who regard jelly in a trifle as only acceptable if making it for small children - and the rest of you.... :)
Which is why she asked it, of course.
I told her it was a good job she hadn't asked the 'which comes first, the tea or the milk?' question as it might have resulted in something nastier than the last great flame wars....

Date: 2015-08-24 03:31 am (UTC)Maybe I'll splash out on a box mix for crumpets. Ruth has a bunch of good gf cooking books and we use the recipes for bread and cakes but I think they're mainly US books and I'm not sure they eat crumpets. I'll check though, home made always trumps the packet mixes in flavour and texture.
I don't think people in the general population wear stockings much any more but they are worn a lot in the burlesque, Rockabilly and cosplay crowds. A bunch of the fandoms I read in have them, Agent Carter, Miss Fisher etc. Dita Von Tease includes suspenders and garter belts in a lot of her lines of lingerie. But yeah most people just wear tights.
