Anyone got any smartphone recommendations? There's no way I can afford another iPhone so I'm going to have to settle for something a bit less fancy and cheaper.

Really, so long as I can access multiple email accounts easily and use Twitter the rest of it was just superficial extras

Any recs?

I have a Samsung Galaxy and I love it. My coworker has the Samsung Galaxy II and she loves it ...

Yeah, that's pretty much the same price as the iPhone sadly.

My husband and one of my daughters both have HTC WildfireS phones and seem very happy with them. You can get an app for them which makes the desktop like an iPhone, I'm told. Dave has a contract for £15.75 pm and didn't have to pay any money up front (he got it the week after Christmas, so that's reasonably up-to-date info.)

So sorry about your crappy month so far. {{hugs}}

Thanks! I only just got a contract with O2 and they're sending me a new SIMM so it's just the handset I need. Sadly that's what's proving to be the expensive part

I have an HTC Incredible, which I love. It's a couple years old now, so it should be a lot more affordable than when I bought it. Though I bought a refurbished one that cost me a lot less than the new in the box price. I can email from many accounts, I can tweet, I can read.

ETA: refurbished might be worth investigating. My phone, which I got when they first came out, would have cost me $250, but on my providers website, they had an option of buying the refurbished one, that came with the same warranty. It cost me $50 - big difference. Otherwise I couldn't have afforded a smartphone. Just tossing it out there :)

Sorry to hear about your phone loss. Major suckage.
As for a rec, I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace, and adore the crap out of it. It was an Xmas pressie, but I think it was on offer for about £150?

Does your insurance specifically say that your mobile is not covered outside the house? Ours doesn't and so our mobiles are still covered (we checked). Might be worth triple checking???

It depends what sort of phone you want really, I have a Nokia e72 (think blackberry, but a bit cheaper) because I didn't want slide, flip, touch.

You could think about getting a phone off ebay? What sort of budget are you looking at?

Yeah, I'm looking at ebay. I'd say no more than £200

So if we go by the O2 pay as you go pricings...you could get a Samsung Tocco, a Sony Ericsson Xperia mini pro or a blackberry curve - although I think I saw a cheaper on on the Argos catalogue also on the O2 network.

Actually, Argos had about 25 smartphones or so under £200 (and more that were internet/email capable) but I don't know if they're locked to their network. The only ones who explictly said they were locked were Orange (I only know this cause I was helping a friend phone-shop recently. Under £30 and with internet is harder to find...)

Except that you'd end up paying up to £20 for an extra sim card you won't use. I have no idea what the ebay pricings are like but it shouldn't be that hard to find something under £200. Good luck!

Thanks! O2 works for me as that's who I'm with anyway :D Didn't even think to look in Argos

I have an HTC Desire which I think is very similar to an iphone, but cheaper. I have had some issues with the software messing up and deleting all my contacts, but hopefully the new version has fixed that? XD

I have an HTC something or other which is probably completely out of date now BUT I can recommend the HTC phones generally. It doesn't do anything to irritate me which I consider to be a bonus.
