I'm breaking my con report down into seperate days as there is lots to talk about and lots of photos to share


The fannish experience started quite early for this one. I met a couple of my Twitter friends at York station and we travelled down together. We mostly squeed about cons and how awesome Misha is *g*

Then when we got to Birmingham New Street we met up with littlehollyleaf so we could all find the hotel together.

Now this con didn't sell particularly well. Poor timing meant that none of the major names were there and so poor ticket sales meant they couldn't afford any more of the minor ones either. So it was just Sam Ferris, Chad Lindberg, Rob Benedict and Mark Rolston. Checking in was so weird as I didn't realise how low the numbers were. I was expecting epic queues and there was just no one there.

It was nice though, when it got down to it, but more on that later.

After I'd checked in and dumped my stuff I quickly spotted kitty_poker1 and suki_blue so bounded over to say hi. We were soon joined by littlehollyleaf, sweet_exile and imora_mi_savur

We sat around and had a few drinks and then headed off to rest up and change for the opening ceremony and drinks reception. Holly and I went to see ionaonie and we hung out in her room and chatted for a while.

Opening ceremony was, as these things always are, mostly a non-event. The guests got on stage waved and said hi and that was about it. Rob joked that he is very much like Chuck so that we should expect lots of awkward nervousness. Sam totally owned the stage and said how awesome it was to have a smaller and more intimate group but I could tell by a couple of looks the actors shot each other that they weren't used to doing such a small event. It worked out well in the end though

Straight after the opening ceremony we had the drinks reception. This is always my favourite part of going gold at a Massive Events con. You get to chat to all the guests and there's epic amounts of free wine.

Chad was the first one to come to our table and he wasn't really sure what to say at first. He was kind of jetlagged bless him but he bumped glasses with me and we toasted the free wine. LOL! He chatted a bit about his movie, I asked him what was on the pendant around his neck (it was a hummingbird engraved on a disk - a gift from his sister) but nothing really stood out from the experience (okay, yes, I got very drunk and can't remember a lot of it now)

Next up was Sam and wow she is awesome! That woman can talk, and she's really good at projecting her voice so we could all hear. She talked about conventions and how she knows that for us cons are as much about meeting up with friends as it is about seeing people from TV (so true). She talked a bit about Lost as she'd just finished marathoning the entire show but she couldn't get into too much detail as someone at our table didn't want spoilers. I almost hugged her when she got onto American remakes of British shows and how she hates them. She has exactly the same opinion as me. Just air the British show instead of remaking it.

Then we got onto accents and she was asking if we can tell whether someone is doing a bad British accent or when a Brit is doing a bad American accent. It was really interesting. She liked Hugh Laurie's accent in House and Nicholas Hoult in A Single Man.

After that Rob came over and OMG that man is SMALL! Seriously, he must have been standing on a box in SPN because he must only be about 5'8 max. He was totally adorable though. He asked us all where we were from and when I said York he said 'Oh, York, I've heard of that. They built a new one' Yes, Rob, they did *pets*

He also seemed fascinated by Middlesborough which is where my two travelling companions are from. He kept saying the name over and over under his breath like he was trying to memorise it. Wonder if he googled it when he got back to his hotel room. LOL

Mark was last and I am ashamed to say I'd initially dismissed him as just a random extra guest. Dude, the guy has been in EVERYTHING! He's incredibly intelligent and perceptive and as soon as he arrived he tried to pimp out his son to us 'That's my son over there. His name is Adam and he's 26 and available' LOL!

He cracked jokes about Jared and Gen 'They kept their relationship under wraps but I did wonder why she was in his trailer all the time' but he did not seem to want to talk about Misha. That's okay though because Rob talked about Misha enough for everyone (more on that later)

That was kind of it really. We managed to sneak littlehollyleaf in right at the end as the back door was wide open. She missed all the guests but she got a free glass of wine out of it

We retired back into the lobby after that and unfortunately by this point I was quite drunk so I really can't remember much of what we talked about. There are photos though!

After a while a few of us headed back to ionaonie's hotel room to watch some SPN and eat some food. I'm partially blaming the wine but we watched Two Minutes to Midnight and it made me cry. I wasn't even watchig it! I was just listening as there wasn't room for all of us around the laptop. It just got to Sam's line where he says something like 'We don't have anything else. There's just me' God, I just wanted to hug them both :(

I didn't quite make it to the end of the ep and headed off to bed at about 1am which turns out to be an early night over the course of the weekend. LOL.
