AU is not OOC

hilsRight, this has been niggling at me for a few days and following a convo on Twitter I would like to state the following
Just because a fic is AU does not mean it should be OOC.
The whole point of an AU is that it takes existing characters and places them in a different environment. So, yes, you can create a fic where Dean is a cop or a hooker or whatever but if you remove all the things that make Dean himself (the snark, the co-dependance etc) then it's not Dean any more it's an original character who just happens to be called Dean.
I've read two fics this week, one of which had Castiel as a sexual predator hunting down Dean. I had to give up after the first sex scene because that is just not Castiel. The other, again, had Castiel as sexually aggressive while Dean stammered and blushed and was shy. Just...no.
I appreciate RPS AU is slightly different because we don't really know the actors involved beyond their public persona, but there's still basic elements in there that shouldn't be ignored.
