On feedback

I'm curious really. How many of you would feel comfortable leaving contructive criticism/negative feedback on a story you've read.
Personally I know I am guilty of not telling people I haven't enjoyed a story I've read. I'll either find something nice to say about it or not bother saying anything at all. I know this does nothing to help the author but I hate to think that, even if my feedback was wholly contructive, that I might hurt someones feelings.
I'm assuming that most people feel the same as it's rare for me to get anything other than nice, positive comments on my fics and I know they're not that good. Not that I'm complaining. LOL. Positive feedback makes me happy :)
I was just wondering what your take on it was.
