Canada journals - Part 2
Jul. 13th, 2007 11:09 pmSpoilers for Season 3 of BSG here
Friday 6th July 2007
Yet again wore silly shoes to a con. Had to take them off during the panels as my feet hurt. Definitely going to wear my trainers tomorrow.
Sore feet aside it's been a good day. Saw Transformers in the morning and omg it was awesome! Seriously, my jaw must have been hanging open through well over half the film. Brilliant. It even made me cry in places. Yes, I am a freak.
After that we did a bit of shopping and I bought some new jeans. We had some food and then headed to the con. I'm amazed how many faces I recognised considering I was last at this event in 2003. Bumped into
rockgoddes as I was registering and there was hugging and squees.
I went to the dealer room hoping to find some Smallville action figures but there were none :( I did get a Superman logo airbrush tattoo though. LOL
The panels were cool. I seem to be going to a lot of Doctor Who stuff. Hee!
Considering how vocal I usually am I didn't have much to say tonight. I chipped in with little things but mostly I just listened. Until I got to the Smallville panel. LOL. Considering it was a Season 6 recap panel and I haven't even seen Season 6 you couldn't shut me up. Hehe!
Tomorrow is going to be a long day. First panel is at 10am and the last one is at 11pm and then there's a dance until 2am.
I may die!
Saturday 7th July
Today has been packed with panels and Ron Glass. I pretty much covered all my newer fandoms which was cool. The panel on Women in BSG was especially good as there was a feminist writer on the panel and she knew what she was talking about. I have to admit I've never really considered BSG from a fannish perspective before. I watch it and I love it but I don't analyse it or anything. I just go along with what's happening on screen and leave it at that. At the end of today I'm finding I both love and hate it a little bit more than I did before. The women panel made me hate it, or more specifically the writers but the Season 3 recap panel reminded me that there is so much to love about this show that I'd forgotten about. I raised my opinion that Lee is the final cylon and I got some agreement. YAY!
The Heroes panel made me realise just how much there is to discuss about this show. The panel seemed to end really quickly and we'd only just scratched the surface. We probably could have talked about it all day. LOL
The Supernatural Season 2 recap just made me realise how much I preferred Season 1. Not that I didn't enjoy Season 2, it just didn't grip me the way Season 1 did. Maybe I need to watch it again...
There was barely anyone at the Life on Mars panel but it was still fun. I tried to get people talking about the Test Card Girl and what she means but no one else seemed interested. It was fun to talk about it with other people though and especially to get a perspective from people outside the UK
The slash panel was pretty much dominated by people from the Stargate fandom so I found I wasn't in a position to contribute much. I did get people talking about mpreg briefly but then it seemed to go back to Stargate again. Ah well.
Day ended with a panel on gay relationships in sci-fi and fantasy. Tanya Huff was on the panel so it was good to talk to her. I really didn't like the first Blood Ties book so I never read beyond that but Tanya herself was lovely and really interesting. I think I persuaded her to read The Authority
richess and I decided to skip the dance so we got home at a decent time. We must be getting old...
Panels aside I had my photo taken with Ron Glass and I went to his Q&A. He seems like a really lovely man and he clearly likes to laugh.
Meeting Katee tomorrow. YAY!
Sunday 8th April 2007
Well, the con is over and it was fun. I don't have much money left though. Oops.
I won a really pretty glass tealight holder with the Superman logo on it. Only cost me $11 at the art aucton. I love it!
The first panel I went to was BSG and the final five. It's funny but I think we covered pretty much everyone as the final cylon possibility. LOL.
After that I went to get my photo taken with Katee. The queue was huge but it was worth the wait. She was lovely. Really pretty and so nice to everyone. I just wanted to cuddle her.
Then it was the Spike panel. Mostly we were just talking about our favourite moments. I was, however, shocked to hear that in Season 5 of Smallville James was initally going to play Zod. However, the powers that be later decided that he was too fat and decided to make Mike Zod instead. Now, I have heard James called a lot of things during my years in the Buffy fandom but fat is not one of them. I actually felt ashamed to be a fan of Smallville at that moment. The powers apparently asked James to come back for some episodes in Seasons 6 or 7 and he told them to stick it. Good for him!
The panel on the Yellow Eyed Demon from Supernatural was interesting as we had Keith R.A DeCandido on the panel and he was just written one of the first Supernatural novels. There wasn't a massive amount of audience participation but it was still interesting
I ended the panels with one on Rose Tyler. I was all set to have a big rant about why I hated Rose and love Martha but after sitting there listening to Rose fans talking about why they love her I suddenly couldn't remember why I hate her. LOL.
The con ended with Katee's Q&A and that just made me want to cuddle her even more. She was all nervous at first because big crowds freak her out but she relaxed after a while.
After the con we came home and just vegged in front of the TV. I discovered The First 48 and couldn't stop watching. LOL. We also watched a bit of an episode of The Dresden Files. Didn't really look like anything I could get hooked on. Static was also on and although we didn't watch all of it, it got me craving more Smallville. Guess I will be buying Season 6 when it comes out.
Finally watched some of BSG. Ironically it was the episode where Leoben says Adama is a cylon, which is what I spent a lot of time talking about at the con this weekend.
We ended the day watching The Sentinel (the movie with Michael Douglas) but we were too tired so we never finished it
Maybe tomorrow.
I really want to start my Reckoning fic now. Seeing Static inspired me but I can't write it until I've seen the episode (or bits of it anyway).
Boo!
