A long and rambling post about my attitudes to money. Shall pop it behind a cut since it's really for my own benefit
One of the (many) reasons I'm always having money trouble is that I've got it into my head that I can't say no to anything, and to admit that I can't afford something is some sort of failure. If I get asked to do something, go somewhere etc and I want to do it but don't have the money I used to simply either go overdrawn or stick it on my credit card. Not the right way to do things and that attitude has lead to me being in the situation I'm in today and it's not a good one.
So, from now on I'm going to have to get used to saying 'I can't afford it'. It will probably mean a dramatic reduction in my social life, I certainly won't be going on holiday next year, but I will be slowly but surely getting out of debt and that's what I want
After my chat at the bank on Tuesday I've got rid of my credit card and my debit card so I've just got a cashcard. I will only have access to money that I actually have. Drastic, but it needed to be done. I've got all my spending budgeted so that after I've paid all my bills and bought food I still have about £150 per month to spend on me. That's enough and gives me room to save up for when we will hopefully be moving house in June.
I WILL get myself sorted out financially. I don't have any choice now.
