Request for icon makers

hilsI've got some Hornblower (ok, Archie) bases that I want to make into icons and it's occured to me that I really don't have that much skill in the icon making field. I know how to make the icon 100x100, sharpen it, fiddle with the contrast and saturation and add text but that's about it
Can anyone point me in the direction of some simple Paintshop Pro tutorials that will help me jazz up my icons and make them look a bit prettier. The icon I'm using in this post is about the extent of my ability at the moment
Oh, and I have PSP version 7
