This is a slightly toned down version of the rant I had planned but things have been pretty much resolved now. Nevertheless I need to vent

At 11am this morning I was called into the office of my Boss's Boss. It seems that someone from the meeting yesterday has been going around telling people that I'd been ranting about our division at the meeting.

Now our deputy head of division is OBSESSED with us being seen as the best division in the building. It's very childish and purile but he will go to exreme lengths to make us look best. Naturally he got wind of this and went straight to the CE to 'correct' what I'd apparently been saying.

Boss's boss asked me what had happened at the meeting so I told him the truth. Someone asked me if there were any problems and I said yes and gave a few examples. Boss's boss imediately backed down and said that what I'd done was fine. The story he'd got, as well as everyone else, was that I'd sat there and said 'I'd like to rant about how crap our division is. Here are some examples of how crap we are'. He assured me that of course I can answer questions honestly and went to report back what had actually happened

The whole thing just really threw me. This had gone right up to CE level without anyone asking me my side of the story and on top of that I then felt unable to say anything at any future meetings in case something like this happened again. I go to these meetings to help try and make the working environment better, not have my head jumped on every time I say anything even remotely negative

Anyway, Boss's Boss came back to me and said that the situation had been resolved and that he was just as angry as me about the whole Chinese Whispers scenario. He told me to carry on and speak my mind at the meetings and this won't happen again

So, feel better now but I was so angry and upset before. I actually went and cried in the toilets and then I got more angry at myself for getting so wound up about it.

I just hope this afternoon goes a bit better
