Does anyone actually call Southern Comfort 'So Co'? Because the advert is very annoying

Nope, as it sounds like someone you'd call in to lift fingerprints, and other items of evidence

Heheh!!!

Indeed that's what they're called, but that's pronounced socco

Well, I can't speak to the Southern Comfort thing, but I've actually heard Port Coquitliam here in BC called PoCo numerous times (including the news following the municipal elections recently), which I'm sure is equally annoying.

I've not heard the advert but based on the words the contract is formed, it should be pronounced Su'kuh - which is close enough to the police acronym for my liking to be ridiculous.

Now So Com would have been far more fun - partly because it's more militaristic, partly because it adds a certain sexual content, and partly because it's inviting, so come, have a drink

but that implies people in advertising and PR have a brain - actually that's not fair, they do have time share over one, but Cadbury's are hogging it desperately trying to get another hit like the Phil Collins drumming gorilla.

That drumming gorilla is strange

No one that I know. Then again, my friends and I (and other fans) tend to shorten the band Something Corporate to SoCo.

Though, when written like that it looks like a chemical symbol.

Clearly humanity feels the need to abbreviate everything

Seems so. Though I tend to leave the abbreviations to really hasitily written notes for school or online/fandom related things - and the latter tends to be out of sheer laziness and I don't do it when I talk. Unless it's like science related or some other standard and extremely common abbrevation.

Sometimes I say SoCal, but ... not really a lot

How do you get Cal from Comfort? LOL!

Dude ... I totally misread the original comment and thought it said Southern California

*is a dork*

Don't mind me ... I'll just be sitting in the corner covering my face with my hands

Yes. It is "So Co". I find most ads annoying.

HATE the commercials. And no, I've never heard it called that in real life. I'll have to ask T, as he bartended in a semi-trendy pub while going to school.

Seriously?

I've never heard anyone call it that before. I thought the ad had just made it up. LOL

Yeah, I'd be intrigued to know

I've always known it as So Co. Ordering a Southern Comfort and Seven Up is always ordered as a So Co and Seven, here anyways...LOL. I drank too much of that stuff in my early twenties. Can't do it now.

Yep - I hear people call it SoCo all the time. It's kind of stupid if you ask me - but then I don't drink the stuff. :P

Oh yeah, people definitely call it So Co, though I agree that the ads are super annoying. I like mine with ginger ale. :)
