Dude, HBO should make all TV

This was AWESOME!!!! I think the person on my flist who described it as Near Dark the TV show was about right. There's some minor elements of Lost Souls and Anita Blake in there too but this is the first time I've been excited about a vampire show since Buffy.

I don't know where they filmed it but it felt perfect. All the characters were proper rednecks.

I was also amused that Jack from Ultraviolet is the vampire in this. Typecast much. LOL! Actually, there's a few actors in this who aren't American. Bravo!

And I think EB from Deadwood was the Sherrif. LOL!

I'm already downloading episode 2.

I agree. I watched the first episode and was hooked. I love the character of Suki (sp?) I swear there's something about her that isn't right. My roommates and I have been trying to figure it out, possible has vampire or SOMETHING in her family. I don't know, but I can't wait to watch it tonight. We got HBO just for True Blood. :)

Something about Sookie that isn't right apart from her being able to hear people's thoughts? LOL!

I am also betting that her boss is a werewolf (that dog who licked her face after she saved Bill was suspicious, like her comment about werewolves not existing)

I can't wait to see what happens next

Isn't it cool? :) I'm really enjoying the show. I like Sookie a lot, and I keep cracking up at her friend, Tara.

Hee! Tara is awesome! I loved the first scene with her in that shop

Oh yeah, I totally agree about her boss being a werewolf.

Yes, aside from being telepathic, lol. :-P We also think that Sookie's grandma knows something about a vampire being in the family (or something weird) because she's just too cool around/talking to Bill. But, meh, who knows.

We're having friends over for "True Blood Night," lol.

First time I've been excited by a vamp show since Buffy, too! :o)

I've read all the books except the latest which just came out in hardcover. So much better than Anita Blake who just got raunchy. And the show has been pretty true to the books, too. Only thing that bothers me a bit are the accents (not sure how accurate they are), but I'm warming up to them. :o) The second episode is just as good...can't wait to hear what you think!!!!

I really like the accents but then I'm a Brit. What do I know about Southern accents. LOL!

I'll prolly watch episode 2 tomorrow as it's getting pretty late

Heee, I knew you'd enjoy it! I watched the second episode THREE times in one week, no joke, and I'm not one for instant rewatch. Haven't picked up the books yet but I plan to. I'm a sucker for good old Southern Gothic vampires. And I have to admit that Stephen Moyer is totally convincing as Louisiana - er, old blood :)

THE ACCENTS MUST DIE I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT *KILLS IT AND THEN PERFORMS CPR TO BRING IT BACK TO LIFE JUST TO KILL IT AGAIN*

Really, as a Southerner, the accents are awful. Dreadful. Imagine the worst American performing a British accent you've ever heard, and that's what that accent is like to most Southerners. It sounds like it's from Booneville, MS, only worse.

If I didn't have so many books on my to read pile I'd get the first one but I really should get through the 20+ on my shelf first

So it’s good?

That’s nice to hear, because even though I love Alan Ball and he can do no wrong in my eyes, I read first 60 or so pages of the book it was based on, and… well, de gustibus and so on, but in my opinion it was bad. Couldn’t get through it. It might have been a translation issue, but somehow I don’t think so ;)

And yes, HBO should make at least the majority of TV shows. Can you imagine what they would make out of Smallville?

YEY! I'm so glad you like the series.
I'm watching ep. 3 right now- and I love how they are staying true to the books.
As a Southerner myself (well... no, I'm not from the South- just Kentucky. I really have no accent at all) the accents aren't the best... but they're bearable to my ears. I suppose it all depends on where you come from.

I was skeptical at first how well Anna would play Sookie (especially in the first episode) but I think she got right in to the part and is perfect.

Dude, HBO making Smallville would rock!

The implied slash between Clark and Lex wouldn't be just implied that's for sure

Oh yeah.

Sorry. It's just that bad Southern accents make the psychotic episode section of my brain twitch.

No need to apologise. Bad accents upset me too

Oh, the amount of ranting I did about the Irish accents in Heroes last year...

I think it would definitely end up more dark and sexy (Michael would be a very happy boy; all those sex scenes ^_^). And it would probably make more sense. And let’s not forget continuity, good dialogues, psychological truth ... damn it, now I really want to watch this HBO version ;)
