I really need a new job so I can buy a new laptop. I've only had this thing 18 months and I've had a corrupt hard drive and now I seem to have a loose connection in my charger. Every now and then when I move it while it's plugged in I lose power.

As soon as I can afford it I'm getting a decent brand name. Either a Toshiba or a Sony

Gotta pass my driving test first though. Ack!

Solidly built, but expensive.
The power supplys are VERY specific. Don't think you can geta generic one.
Used some at work, granted a few year old now. They feel clunky and work like not fun or shiney.
If you have money to spare, go for a Macbook or the like. They are usually light,can have windows and OSX. Very groovy webcam built in. Good range on the wireless.

My last one was an Acer and I had nothing but trouble. I had to send it back three times because the video card was bad, and then the power cord died.
